Martinelli at the 5?

I was hoping that we could get 10+ decent minutes from Preston and Hunger getting 25+ but Preston flipped the script and played 25 vs 14 for Hunger. His stat line was pretty impressive for an “awful” player: 9 points, 4 reb, 4 assists… glad we had him.
You could see it clearly live that you needed a stronger dude to bump with Payne. Hunger is big and heavy but Preston is stronger.

I had minor quibbles in how we defended Garcia.

Could have started Preston on him leaving Martinelli on Payne who is fairly limited offensively. This happened for a period but because Payne was sitting and Martinelli stuck with Fox.

Could have clearly double teamed 2023 style. We were timid and often late to double team.

Barnhizer often did not negate Garcia going left. He’s no chump going right but left is so much stronger.

Garcia is usually a matchup problem because most teams don’t have a versatile big to guard a 6’10 guy that can shoot the 3, drive to the basket, or play with his back to the basket. Indiana, for example does, and they surely limited him. Garcia does multiple thing decently to well, nothing at elite level. If he meets a physical specimen that matches his size, he struggles. More often than not, he’s just bigger, or just more versatile if not bigger.

Realistically you need a guy like Barnheizer plus a good help defender in Nicholson to be more effective on Garcia, but as you, he’s just a really great scorer.
