Prater signs with Saints

After participating in a minicamp with the Browns last weekend, former NU wide receiver Kyle Prater has signed with the Saints, reuniting him with his former WR coach at USC, John Morton.

Lou, what does this contract mean? Is there some guaranteed money, even if he is released? I'm assuming he still has to make the team.

There is typically some modest signing bonus ($5-$10K) given to undrafted free agents who sign contracts but they absolutely still have to make the the team to earn the rest of the contract.

I thought the receiver-poor Browns was a good situation! Hope he can stick with the Saints, at least on the practice squad.

A multi year contract in the NFL is largely meaningless. What counts are signing bonuses and roster bonuses.
