Just watched Johnny Sebastian get destroyed by an admittedly good wrestler. Sebastian is a good wrestler. If he is sick, injured or cutting too much weight then maybe I can understand his lack of fight. If not, there is something deeply wrong with NU wrestling program.

He got broke by the number two guy in the country! He is coming off two shoulder surgeries, not at his best, but has a winning record. It will take a few years to get the team back on track! They will likely have the number one ranked class in recruiting in 2018!

The guys get four year full rides and then are too comfortable at NU to destroy their bodies! Drew Pariano did an awesome job! Not sure we will ever get back to that level!

Pretty unrealistic expectation.

CSC: Noooo. I sure hope Dr. Philips isn't thinking along these lines. NU needs to fix Wrestling, not abandon it --as the perfidious Olympic committee is considering. Wrestling has been around for several Millennia and is unique. A grueling sport. Just you vs opponent on the mat in front of the crowd. Nothing superfluous. No equipment ( eg racquet ), no time outs ( except for injury ), no one else to blame. Just you vs opponent. Nothing like it and the B1G is the best conference by far.

Wrassler, where are you?

NU has missed the opportunity to take advantage of growing popularity of Lacrosse. The sport was played mostly by boys from high income families but now it is growing through all demographics.

Lacrosse is allowed 12.6 scholarships for about a 40 man team. The average scholarship is thus about 30%. High income kids might still consider NU but everyone else will think twice about NU because of the high cost. This is the same dilemma that baseball and wrestling face

In all likely hood , NU would probably not offer the full complement of 12.6 scholarships either

And in order to have the 12 plus scholarships, either have to add more women's sports or cut them from other men's programs. And we see the effect of not using the full allotment with things like Baseball and swimming (and even wrestling)
