On the whole, Cats baseball has done well on its swing through Texas and Louisiana. Because we have family in Lake Charles LA, wife and I caught the game tonight vs McNeese State. Cats won 12-4 but more than that -- it's truly a different team morale and level of preparation compared to the...
I saw Florida Atlantic a couple of times on TV and once in person on the road.
No overwhelming impressions but the game I saw in person there were two impressive things: board dominance and free throw %. (They got plenty of tries and must've made 90% of them. Near the end they simply didn't...
Agreed. Surely the "warning" is added now to leverage another couple of minutes for TV commercials.
A true rules historian might know better but I suspect there may have been a need for such warning in football's early days before electric scoreboards. My dad (long since gone, alas) described...
Was it something I missed? Without needing to characterize him further, can you say if he posted Miller Kopp-like social media slams against NU?
Is Priebe the whiny bitch or does that describe a companion of his? A sincere question.
Otherwise I gather he was a very good student and an...
Sorry, I was being facetious. Longborg is least likely to be guilty of thuggery. Though do remember, he came from the ruthless and mean corridors of Princeton. Those people are not to be trifled with.
No explanation from me. On TV I saw that the same way you did. My partisan interest in Cats sports would disqualify me from properly evaluating the decision anyway. We move on.
Main point in my prior tirade was just to assure that there's a process of "review" (not from an NBA-type...
Truly, Smelly, do you really think there's no review of Big 10 hoops officials in place? Unless things have drastically changed in the past 7-8 yrs, I can attest that every court official, every game, is evaluated on every possession. In the Big 10 as recently as a decade ago, each official...
Can't say I did. There was a crowd that day and I had trouble finding vendors, so went back to get a beer and hot dog. Missed Babe's alleged shot-called home run. I heard some people talk about it, but don't take much stock in rumors.
I couldn't watch all of game 3 in the Tulane series, but it looked like a bullpen implosion led to another loss. Cliche to say, but the game was closer than the final score would suggest.
I think this team will be competitive -- not good maybe -- but not an embarrassment. Given what the new...
I called high school ball for three decades, and back then the mantra for officials was "Referee the defense." (Meaning: determine the defender's established position instead of focusing primarily on the dribbler/driver.) It made the whole block/charge call easier, or so we thought...
Mostly OT for this thread, but it's so remarkable that months after season's end there's still no head coach of NU volleyball identified -- and in a heavy recruiting period with club seasons underway, etc. (With that sport, it's entirely possible there's not yet even been a hired replacement!)...
Boui? The first time I saw this, assumed it was a simple typo. But three times today you used the same spelling. Buie is going to be an NU legend and deserves correct spelling, right? (It'd be like referring to George Mikun or Ernie Bancks.)
I know. Nobody loves a spelling/grammar pedant...
The call wasn't goaltending, I think, although TV announcers so identified it. It was basket interference, a different offense. When ball is on the rim, net (part of basket) can't be touched.
Minor offense but if seen, must be called.
Unfortunately the women's game can be prone to blowouts. Right now in a Big 12 conference game, at halftime West Virginia leads Univ of Houston, 35-8. The Cougars were held SCORELESS in a 17-0 1st quarter.
On the subject of beatdowns -- in a game now being played, the Univ of Houston women's team was SCORELESS during the entire first quarter. Score was West Virginia 17, Houston 0. (How low can you go?)
My playing experience: 1 yr H.S. sub-varsity. (At that level and in the leather-helmet era we were lucky to have 1 1/2 coaches!)
At high levels now, it's been said that in football especially, "The head coach coaches the coaches and those coaches coach the players." By that reckoning the...
At what time of day is sunrise for you now, Alaska? About 9 or 10 AM? Living so far south has spoiled me.
Your shots are beautiful. You're our "CamCat."
Thanks, NJ. Is it known how many Cats (& who) declared for the portal? And is the early Jan date a deadline for volleyballers to apply, or must they accept an offer from elsewhere by then? (Sorry I don't know where to look that up.)
