Pretty Cool - NU is now #2 in the West

Fantastic year, all things considered. Congrats to the players, coaches and everyone who supports them.

The 3-2-1 going into Week 5

Great win, amazing comeback. Rumors of NU football's death were exaggerated!

Hankwitz is laying out the truth on Twitter right now

It all depends on his contract language. If it says that his responsibilities extend to e.g. "the behavior of athletes while on or in team facilities", yes.

Yup these are just (somewhat educated) guesses. I'll make another: there will not be a complaint filed, and much more certainly, not be any trial.

Hankwitz is laying out the truth on Twitter right now

I would assume the for cause language is pretty broad and it seems there are plenty of potential witnesses to substantiate the case for termination. The other is straightforward. Did the conversation/agreement about the two week suspension constitute a verbal modification of contract, and was...

Hankwitz is laying out the truth on Twitter right now

As I said above, I doubt this will be a wrongful termination case but rather a breach of contract action. As for convincing the alumni, as one myself I doubt the majority care much at all about the firing of the coach of a program with this crap going on. (Hell, most probably don't care about...

Hankwitz is laying out the truth on Twitter right now

There is no" guilty or innocent" in contract law. Remember, I was responding to "presumption of innocence" argument - which does not apply in this situation. And I doubt Fitz will argue there was no cause. I would guess this will be a breach of the oral "two week suspension" argument.

Hankwitz is laying out the truth on Twitter right now

Ok. That has zero to do with "innocence" or "guilt".

Hankwitz is laying out the truth on Twitter right now

He was not a defendant in a criminal proceeding. He was an employee of a private organization. Presumption of innocence doesn't enter into it.

The BoT will fire Schill because they don't want NU to become Rice

Agree, except I think it's "classier NU alums who care about the football program". I would guess a large percentage don't, in relation to academic and overall reputation. That goes for students too.

Poll about grounds for terminating a head coach for cause

Yeah, I don't really get the "he didn't know" reasoning. I'm absolutely ready to believe Fitz didn't know. But how is that a defense? He's indisputably in charge of and ultimately responsible for the program. He's by far the highest paid person within the University. This happened within the...

Must Read article in The Athletic

Absolutely. I played three sports (including football) through high school and one at NU (in the 70's-80's, not football). I had multiple friends in other sports at NU and never saw or heard of anything like this pea brained neanderthal crap. And saying this type of stuff goes on in "every...

A defense of Schill and Gragg

Yeah, I took the breach of contract talk to be aimed at setting the bar at paying off whatever is left on his 10 year deal. If I was NU, I would not just fold up though, they likely do have some grounds for termination. I don't think "I had no idea" is much of a position on a wrongful...

A defense of Schill and Gragg

You are obviously an attorney and rational observer of this. I found something interesting in Webb's remarks. He didn't specifically address wrongful termination, but did make a breach of contract claim - that the oral "agreement" regarding the 2 week suspension was contractual under Illinois...

Treatment of Players By College Football Programs

Just curious why my commenting was so infuriating to you. I neither particularly disliked nor liked Fitz. I did not think he was a particularly good reflection of NU as a whole, but he seems a decent guy and his teams usually played hard. I really didn't much care whether he was fired or not. I...

Treatment of Players By College Football Programs

When did I ever call for him to be fired? I came around because I was curious how people on here - as opposed to the general alum population - were reacting to this. And I stop by every season - just don't comment much. Lighten up.

A list of facts pertaining to the Fitzgerald termination

The "alleged' behavior? Seems pretty well corroborated at this point. In my view, this boils down to: is the head coach responsible for players conduct while within team facilities and activities? If you say no, Fitz is being treated unfairly. If you say yes, he is deserving of termination...
