Reed for sure would be going somewhere to start. Ajogbor played 23 minutes a game in the Ivy and Nwoko didn’t play much for Miami so they would be much more reasonable as options to share minutes.

    Portal update

If you want to elevate beyond 8-9 seeds you have to go after high-quality players when they’re available, and a PG and depth at the 4/5 is what we need. And perhaps there’s some concern Matt’s injury will eat into next season and/or limit his minutes.

    Last four in?

I just watched a video that explained that 35 at large teams has been voted into the field by Saturday morning and that all teams that make the field would be selected by the end of the day. I think there’s a good chance we were in the 35, but there’s going to be room for a few more because 6 of...

    Last four in?

It’s looking like the play-in games will be 10-seeds, which I believe has never happened. It’s likely the 11s will all be going to AQs. The good news for us is if we’re already on the 8 or 9 line then nothing effectively has changed for us. If we’re on the 10 line then Dayton is suddenly in play.

Let’s look at the big picture

Watch this video and you might get a little more excited about what Langborg could do next week:

    Getting off the 8/9 line

This isn't quite right, it wasn't a requirement prior to NET to be .500 in conference to make the tournament, even though most teams were. Also, the committee has said in the past that NET isn't designed to be a primary tool for selecting or seeding teams, it's a tool for sorting teams into the...

NCAAs: Where and when might we play?

Yeah I’d agree with those estimates. I don’t particularly care where we go, but I don’t like seeing us on the consensus 9 line and Boise State sitting as an 8. Not excited about the lingering possibility of the least-anticipated rematch in tournament history.

NCAAs: Where and when might we play?

The way I'm seeing it, there's only one site that seems out of the question: Spokane. That's looking like it's going to have two 4-5-12-13 pods. Pittsburgh also looks unlikely. If we're in an 8-9 game (the most likely scenario) we'll be in a 1-8-9-16 pod. Three of the 1 seeds are locked in...

    The only disappointment...

...Blake Smith missed a shot tonight. He was 7-for-7 on the season until he missed that open corner 3 in the 2nd half, so he finishes the regular season shooting just 87.5% from the field.

    2023-24 NET ratings thread

We actually got more of an overall efficiency boost in predictive models from losing to Purdue by 9 in OT than from beating Detroit by 32.

    2023-24 NET ratings thread

The current selection committee is made up of 12 people: 3 conference commissioners and 9 athletic directors. The conferences represented by commissioners: SWAC (chairperson), Sun Belt, Big Sky The schools represented by ADs: Iowa St, Oregon St, North Carolina, Minnesota, Alabama, Butler...

Resetting expectations - if Matt is out for the season

Yeah we shot 54% from the field, 10-20 from 3 and 14-16 from the line and just got beat by a very good offensive team that made every shot when it mattered. Dix is on a huge heater (26-38 his last 3 games) and kept it going. I’m not overly worried about that result, Iowa is always a...

    Bubble watch

I think we're fine. Obviously we don't want to lose out, but going into today we were likely on the 8 line (the best of the 8 seeds based on the consensus at Bracketmatrix), which means all 4 of the 9s, all 4 of the 10s and all 6 of the 11s (because 4 11s will play in) are below us (plus any 8s...

    2023-24 NET ratings thread

The NET rankings *do* take into account wins and losses, and the quality of those wins and losses. The predictive element is part of NET, but there's also a descriptive (who have you beat/lost to) element. KenPom, which is purely a predictive tool, does *not* take wins and losses into account...

    Is CCC a good coach?

He's clearly proven that he can be a very good coach. He also took valid criticism for the team's return to the basement after the first tournament run. Both of those things can be true, but I'm very happy that he's not only rebuilt this but that there's some hope that it's not going to fall...

    BIG getting crazier

The O and D efficiencies are just points scored/allowed per 100 possessions, adjusted to account for quality of opponent and location of the game, expressed as a prediction of how a team would fare against an average team. Because it's expressed on a per 100 possession basis, it wouldn't be...

    Nitpicking

NET no longer factors in raw scoring margin, but it does as we’ve discussed here include adjusted offensive and defensive efficiency, which is certainly tied to margin of victory. Some things I’ve read have suggested that it isn’t overly sensitive to margin of victory or defeat in games against...
