Virginia makes it legal for universities to pay college athletes

"The new law, which is scheduled to take effect July 1, is the first in any state to make it illegal for the NCAA to punish a school for compensating athletes for their NIL rights. Current NCAA rules prohibit schools from signing NIL deals with their own players. The law could either give...

The question path I suspect were drivers were the 'donate your tickets' theme and the 'upgrade your seats/ticket prices' theme.

NIL Auction - Boo Buie Trading cards

The collectibles industry lost me in the 90s when everyone tried to cash in ever so hard.

Clingan and Edey are both also really young and who knows what kind of career results they'll end up with.

    B1G Portal

I dunno, in the NBA I'd be more interested in Clingan from my limited time watching him. He seems much better suited to the fast paced up and down the NBA is running these days. He's faster, has more endurance, and much better hops than Edey. Edey is a lot better offensively from three feet out...

    B1G Portal

The thing that stands out for me is Iowa's coach is 'losing' his son to Butler. I am vaguely curious about the story behind that. I don't think I've seen it before in D1.

Reported Portal Visit: Fairfield PG Jalen Leach

I'm optimistic that Clayton will continue developing and be a solid PG for NU, but that might not fully manifest until his junior year.

    Jared Jones

I assumed he left because he was third in line for the position he was built for, and he was aimed at being a center which he probably didn't want to be. Also, he was bad from three and that doesn't work in Collins' system. Seemed like a win/win. Has he improved his three?

Who is the fifth best player on the roster?

I've got to go with Smith as well. Hunger showed flashes in the last few games and he gives it his all, but he was basically a liability on the court. Of course he can always turn that corner and be a great contributor next season, and that's what we're hoping, right? But this season past, I was...

    Final game observations

Mediocre is better than not good. UConn shut down Boo with double and triple teams. Tennessee, NC State, and UConn shut down Smith with whoever happened to be guarding him in the moment. He was still able to feed Edey enough to have decent stat lines tho.

    Final game observations

Agreed. Smith has shown in the last two games just how mediocre he is individually. I was also entertained watching UConn's little guys alley oop and dunk past Edey multiple times. I admit I hadn't realized until the NC State game that Edey can't go left. What a massive failure in player...

    Was it a foul?

PWB's take on it seems to be that if in the waning seconds of a game, a player throws a defender head first into the media desk to clear out space for their shooter, the refs should ignore the foul because there are only seconds left and the players should decide the game.

    Final Four

Smith's line at the end of today's game 1 for 9 shooting 5 turnovers 3 personal fouls 6 passes to Edey and 8 rebounds in 40 minutes of play.

    Was it a foul?

It was a blatant foul and the ref made the right call. Most of the videos I've seen from people complaining it wasn't a foul are shown from the court and you can't see her feet or just how much she drives that elbow. Only a partisan maroon, having reviewed the videos in just this thread alone...

    Observations on a Tuesday night

True enough, but Painter has shown an ability in developing big men, so I suspect he gets interest from the better prospects. I could be wrong of course. I'm thinking of guys like Swannigan, Hammons, Johnson, and of course Edey.

Boo Buie National Defensive Player of the Year

    Observations on a Tuesday night

Smith as a second year player is miles above Smith as a first year player, and most likely somewhat below Smith as a third year player. He is a middlin' B1G point guard at this point, but should be reasonably valuable next year. And Painter has another 7'2" dude in the wings ready to step in...
