Before the portal, l think football was easier because there is so much development required in football. Pat could recruit 2 and 3-stars that could develop into excellent players after 3 or 4 years in the program. There are lots of first round NFL draft picks that come from non power-3...

Portal Visit: Stony Brook C - Keenan Fitzmorris

I suspect he’s going to be another big body coming off the bench who will hopefully have a few good games. Unless we are able to pay more, I think that is all we can get. Hopefully Hunger makes a big leap this year. And we need to recruit a big in this next class.

He’s the same age as Jaren Jackson Jr. from MSU who just finished his 6th season in the NBA. That much experience can only be a good thing.

Portal Visit: Stony Brook C - Keenan Fitzmorris

His defensive rebounding numbers are concerning. He averaged 2.3 defensive rebounds in 25 minutes. I assume he was often the biggest guy on the court. But he hit 75 percent of his free throws so that would be a refreshing change.

And that’s the risk with relying on recruits. I just meant Duke has to fill out its roster. We have 3 spots that need to be filled with rotation guys. No room for potential towel waivers other than the 3rd big.

And looking at Gillis’ stats, they are very Beranesque (6.5 point and 3.9 rebounds in a little over 20 minutes), with a much higher shooting percentage. Gillis averaged 0 blocks and .3 steals a game, so he better be doing a lot of the little things. He was playing with the most dominant player...

I think as the 5 stars develop during the season, he may end up waiving a towel on the bench. In the tournament last year, Young played 4 minutes and 7 minutes. The same thing could happen to Gillis. I assume he knows that going in but is willing to do it because it’s Duke.

Pretty much. Young averaged about 11 minutes a game this year. Gillis will probably play about the same amount. We don’t have a roster spot for a someone like that, unfortunately.

    Kanaan Carlyle in the portal

He was a freshman and had stretches of very high level play. Not saying they will will win the national championship. With that center, that backcourt, Mgbako, Reneau, I think they will finish near the top of the conference. And that will be enough to keep Woodson’s job. I feel pretty...

Kansas hired Roy Williams and Bill Self after Larry Brown. Purdue hired Matt Painter to replace Gene Keady. IU hired Davis, Sampson, Crean, Miller and Woodson. Coaching matters. The brand has been diminished over time. And Woodson is not going to restore the glory so they will continue to...

Again, tied for 2nd in the conference with us with 2 wins against Purdue. Better than middle of the road. Not saying he’s a great coach but they will finish near the top of the conference.

They finished 2nd 2 years ago. They had a bad backcourt last year. They will be a very good team this year barring injuries.

Somebody told me IU had a big NIL fundraising event a few weeks ago. Some heavy hitters (including Cuban) stepped up. They appear to have a hell of a backcourt now. And one of the best centers. I think they saved Woodson’s job.

They all sound intriguing. I assume Power will reach out to the schools that originally recruited him but it can’t hurt to take a shot at a top 25 type player, especially a big.

He missed some big shots early on and I felt like that affected his confidence. He had size and skill and pretty good athleticism.
