Northwestern feels like a good fit for Georgia QB Marcus Romain

It's fine that Romain's smarts produce a 4.2 in the classroom, but it would be even better if his legs could deliver those numbers on a quarterback keeper.

    Transfer OL Matt Keeler

Let's take Ben Johnson seriously.. Before his NU football career, he wrote The Fox and he now coaches the scrappy Minnesota Golden Gophers basketball team. He is a true scholar-athlete.

    Local NU Reporting: A Caution

I'd say it would be someone who didn't think too kindly of Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Eric Bieinemy.

This season compared to the previous two downer years

CORRECTION: Meant to say the turn-around in the Minnesota game. Well cataloged.

This season compared to the previous two downer years

Like most everyone else on this board, I was devastated by Fitz's firing, and especially for the lack of due process and the failure to release the investigative report that was the alleged basis for his sacking. Having said that, I saw a difference in the talent and determination of the team...

What to know about Utah for the Las Vegas Bowl

Let's start the betting now: How many times will our announcers call the Utah quarterback Bryson Bryant and the Cat quarterback Ben Barnes? Perhaps they'll even work Brooks Barnhizer into the play-by-play! Ah, Reminders of Nomenclature Past from the esteemed Turk.

Remembering Alan Smithee - Photos included

I note Midvale Dave (50) in the last two photos. Whatever happened to him? In my few encounters, I enjoyed his company. Thanks for these historic photos.

Ryan Field: Best and Worst memories

Best memory: 1958 vs Michigan. Halftime score: NU: 43, Michigan 0. Final score was 55-24. A never-never land for a young Cats fan who thought the Cats could never do better than a .500 season. Worst: 2018, Akron, down 21-0 at one point, comes back to humiliate the Cats, 39-34. Just dreadful.

    Note to Matt Shelton

Lead story on starting QB vs. Terps: "Expect Sullivan, who has struggled over his past two games with poor protection up front, to start at quarterback against Minnesota." Make it Maryland. Thanks.

    UTEP @ NU Prediction Thread

Wouldn't it be more interesting to predict the attendance? Do we break 10,000 (no students, crises, decommits)?

Is there a pdf of the NU roster anywhere?

https://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/teams/nnv/roster/ Try this. Has most of what you are looking for.

Whatever happened to Gladeskat and the Turk?

While we're at it, whatever happened to Midvale Dave (and his accompany cartoon)? A small band of us was at the Miami (Ohio) game in 2006 -- Fitz's first -- and Dave was the life of the party. I also remember that he posted some sensitive stuff about his sister that impressed me for his sharing...

    JJTBC 11/20

I rooted for both team's offenses -- because of Kafka for the Giants (cameo appearance in the booth) and The Ball Carrier putting up good numbers for the Lions.

Raleigh News-Observer take on the game

Indeed. I still savor our experience at the Syracuse game in 2012 and getting to know the extended Van Hoose family. Thanks for your note.

Preseason Zoom Chat at noon Saturday Aug 13 (Chicago time)

Thanks to Astro for an enjoyable and informative 90 minutes. I was particularly interested in the explanation on how the difficulty of getting into an NU graduate program leads some players with one more year of eligibility to opt for the transfer portal instead.

    Joseph Epstein and NU football

The retired NU professor had this to say on the Wall Street Journal's OpEd page today: "I don't give to universities, lest they think I encourage their wanderings from their true mission -- although I have considered giving $5,000 to Northwestern University, where I taught for 30 years, and...

The end game for the B1G...

Jason Gay's description of Big Ten football games (Wall St Journal, July 2-3, 2022): "[USC and UCLA] are not doing this because they enjoy football games that go punt, punt, field goal, halftime, punt, punt, interception, punt, fumble, punt, punt, field goal. (You have not felt a thrill until...

OT NU knocked out of Chess League playoffs

Don't blame the problems on the pawns. They are the proletariat of the chess board. The problem here is strategy. When on offense (white), the Cats team often went with the Fried Liver Attack, which black thwarted by playing Bc5 on its fourth move. When playing black, they were OK with the...
