The Big 10 announced today that it will go to a 9 game conference schedule in 2016. It would like each conference member to play at least 1 Power 5 (including ND and BYU) non-conference game. And it would eliminate FCS opponents.

Just watched the afternoon Fitzgerald interview. There is some confusion about whether games already scheduled are grandfathered. When asked, he said he does NOT like the change. NU's strategy has been to play an Illinois 1AA team, giving them a change to play the Big 10 close to home. He said he felt the best approach would have been one Power 5 team with similar academics, a MAC team, and an FCS. He clearly wasn't happy with the new approach.

I know we have a tough schedule this year, playing 7 of the top 40 ranked teams in the Coaches poll. The BT has a tough schedule as it plays 3 of the top 4 non-BT teams in the first two weeks, i.e., Oregon, TCU, Alabama. Not sure how the Big Ten could pile more on, as the teams seemed to self schedule solid opponents outside the BT. Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of losing a Div 2 team, but it isn't like NU or the BT are avoiding the big boys. As far as 16 and 17, we pick up the extra BT game and seem to have a fairly easy schedule as we avoid OSU for the foreseeable future.

We play at OSU in 2016 and at home in 2019.
