Am I seeing things or do we have back-to-back bye weeks on October 8th and 15th? Has that ever happened before?

Pretty sure the Indiana game will get pushed back to one of those weeks to accommodate return travel from the Ireland game.
Indiana has an open date on 10/15, so the game could go there, but unless other changes were made to their schedule they would then effectively have no bye week, as they would get the first weekend off and then play every weekend the rest of the season. Not sure they'd be too happy about that.

I've been banging the drum to reschedule IU as soon as NU announced they would be the first team to stay two nights after the game to do historical and cultural stuff. It made no sense with a pending conference game. The conference schedule is often not finalized until January or February. I suspect you’ll see that tweaked for the final release as well.
Some evidence starting to emerge that the B1G schedule will not remain as it currently appears (PSU deleted the update, but unlikely it came out of thin air).
Generally, Indians play Cricket, not FBI hope they don’t Swap Indians for Penn St. I would rather have the Cats play jet lagged (probably no different than recent history dictates.) Also keep the two week bye for the last half of the season.
I look forward to that with bad breathTo be totally honest, there's a little piece of me that likes having Fitz go up against the Franklins, Harbaughs, Flecks of the world - especially when he might be digging his heels in on questionable decision-making. The threat of losing to these men MUST drive him insane and must compel him to be a little more open-minded about what it takes to win.
