Partially a function of competition. He had plenty of space to run in.Thoughts from his tape: the dude is fast with good vision at a good high school level. But - very little wiggle, and I don't think I saw one plant/cut. Not sure how that is going to translate to the Big Ten, unless the offensive line can open huge holes consistently.
His moves are ok, more subtle, like Warren Long.Thoughts from his tape: the dude is fast with good vision at a good high school level. But - very little wiggle, and I don't think I saw one plant/cut. Not having to plant or cut and not being able to plant or cut are two different things. I’d be surprised if the staff has not addressed those concerns by watching him him at a workout or camp where he demonstrated those skills. This guy was the new RB coach’s first offer if I am not mistaken. I think he knows something we don’t know yet.Thoughts from his tape: the dude is fast with good vision at a good high school level. Speaking of fast 40 yard times, who have been the fastest players in NU history?
I can think of Venric Mark and Jelani Roberts. I think 4.32 beats both of those guys.
Speed on its own is not enough if there are not ways to get him the ball. If he is a RB, he must also have some elusiveness and contact balance. If not, you put him at WR but can he catch? If not, off to the defensive backfield you go.Even if his cutting ability needs some work, i would think it’s our OC’s responsibility to put him in position to use that speed (I know some have said they doubt the 4.3-ish reports, but even if he’s a bit slower than that, he‘s still fast!).
What I like about his tape, is that he seems to have the eye for the hole. He is elusive and smart. He obviously can run over guys at this level, which he will not be able to do at NU. But with his speed and eye, I am very hopeful this young man can run for a lot of yards, and join NU's long list of excellent running backs! He will definitely be putting on weight to take the hits. But come on! Go Cats!Speed on its own is not enough if there are not ways to get him the ball. If he is a RB, he must also have some elusiveness and contact balance. If not, you put him at WR but can he catch? If not, off to the defensive backfield you go.

No disagreement here. I’m only adding that it’s partially the OC’s responsibility to find ways to get him ball opportunities in some open space.Speed on its own is not enough if there are not ways to get him the ball. If he is a RB, he must also have some elusiveness and contact balance. If not, you put him at WR but can he catch? If not, off to the defensive backfield you go.
Your source is probably more accurate, I think my source made a mistake on Venric, because I recalled him having 4.69 too but the other site had him at 4.38.What’s your source on these? Because Venric ran a 4.69…
