5 single-score losses this season

That will be what is sold to recruits (and it can be said because it is true) and the "bigger badder" losses will be to teams like Ohio State.

We actually LOOK worse than the scores, just from the final results, we do seem to be close (and ignoring the face that one of our opponents was from the FCS).

If you didn't watch any of the games this year and just saw the scores you might say "Oh, dang, that was one snakebit team, were they young, they are so close, next year they should be able to "finish" many of these games in their favor".

And I hope that is true. I don't think we are close to the dark ages like some are saying. I think that is an overreaction.

I would not have thought it possible but this is as close to the dark ages (I witnessed it all) than we have been since the Rick Venturi era. It is not hopeless but it is discouraging.

NU coaches who have won zero or 1 games since I've been alive:

Ara
Alex Agase
Pont (twice)
Venturi (thrice)
Green
Peay

A couple of good head coaches in that list.

I had more immediate hope while in the Peay and Green tenures than I do right now.

Lose a lot of close games and you're a bad team. You're not getting every one score game to go your way

Which means 5 losses by more than one score. There is no silver lining with this team.
Three of those one score losses were to Duke, SIU, and MOH. So no moral victories there.
