8 former players filing suit vs. NU for hazing

Ooh boy. This just keeps getting uglier.

Once again, why do the president and AD still have jobs? They made both sides of the lawsuits plausible. The report exonerated Fitz from direct knowledge, but the firing made him the sole figure responsible despite the university’s own understanding of the facts. Then, by firing Fitz, these two acknowledged that the hazing went far beyond what would be suggested by a two-week suspension. So all players have a viable claim of sexualized abuse/hazing sanctioned by the most high-profile figure at the university.

By their actions they also ensure the entire university will bear the cost and not just the football team.

Here is the reason why Fitz and the players are both suing and have a good chance of winning against the university thanks to the school’s admin:

You wonder if players from other schools are going to start making accusations. Northwestern can’t be the only place this stuff goes on at.

It is ironic that Northwestern implicitly supported a claim that some of its students are barbaric and then gets sued by some of the very barbarians whose reputations they've damaged.

NU can be sued by the guys who committed the alleged deeds.
They can also be sued by the guys who most admire Fitzgerald and are angry he was fired.

And that's why NU is keeping all the remaining coaching staff - you witnesses and defendants just keep within easy reach.

This decision announces that NU won't even be trying to find a long term HC this season. Many here seem to think that's appropriate, but I would prefer to see NU make an EFFORT by pursuing a couple dream candidates with the offer of heavy annual salary. I see MK makes some $11.6M already, so that's off the table. Looks like NU is just in no hurry to start to rebuild, though, as NU prepares to face the worst season in its history. Some lyrics come to mind: "The Roof... The Roof...The Roof is on Fire! We don't need no water let the MF burn!"

The team will take another serious hit when the perps and enablers have been nailed, but that will likely take more than the season to get through court.

These attorneys know that NU is just the tip of the iceberg here (as md says above), that hazing of some sort is rampant in college football, and they're going to pull the mask off it.

NU will likely be mentioned in the first paragraph of every story about it and this &^%$ will outlive me.

Make mine a triple.
