I traded DMs with Micah Jones last night. He should be credited for sticking to the message. He obviously wouldn't tip his hand about where he will commit, but he wouldn't give me anything else, either. Basically, his answer to everything was "Friday" -- with a few LOLs and emojis thrown in there. (He's a good kid and we've got a good relationship.) He wouldn't say why he moved the date up, whether it was down to NU vs. ND, or anything else. I asked if he's already decided, and he said he's "pretty sure but not 100%." I called him on that and said there was no way would he move the date if he didn't know. I just got some laughing emojis and a "who knows idk" response. It's funny, I probably talked to Micah more than any NU recruit, yet I feel like I know very little about him -- other than that he is a very thorough and deliberate prospect who was more methodical in his recruiting approach than anyone I can remember. He also could have a future as a poker player.
I also reached out to a Rivals ND writer last night to see what I could find out from the other side. They are pretty confident that he's going to pick the Irish. They feel the same way I do -- that Micah is very difficult to read -- but a couple of good sources have told them that Notre Dame expected him to commit shortly after his visit. Once he moved the date up, their confidence soared. So take that for whatever you think it's worth.
No one is sure about anything, of course, and won't be until Friday. But I will say this: there are a lot of people lined up behind the Notre Dame theory and very, very few in the NU camp -- and probably no one outside this board. Of course, I'm sure people would have felt that way regardless of his recruiting history to date.
