We're gonna miss Olah and Demps. Olah was a very heady passer and would create opportunities for Demps. Meanwhile, Demps could take over games with his 3-point shooting (when he was hot) and tough driving to the basket. Demps four straight threes blew open the Illinois game. His aggressive defense and drives helped hold off the Illini.

I'll be more than happy to say I have no problem saying adios to Demps and Olah. And it has nothing to do with some cheap, long-lost Carmody thing. (I guess we must have missed the many posts where people went out of their way to statistically prove that Olah was the best player on the team. No agenda there.)

Let me ask this: what part of either player's game would be difficult to replace by any middle-of-the-road B10 player? I could go on and on about the shortcomings in their games, but let me be brief.

Yes, NU will miss Demps' incredible last minute heroics. They will also miss his offensive - key word - production once every four or five games. A little consistency can easily replace that.

If Pardon can stop fouling (admittedly this is a big "if" for some players and he looks like one of them), I think NU already has a player at Olah's level, and that doesn't take Benson into consideration.

With all that said, both guys were important bridges between Carmody and Collins. I'm not sure CC has even the incredibly minimal success he has so far without Demps and Olah acting as the pied pipers. I appreciate how much character both of them showed in their time here.

Pardon won't get called for as many fouls this year in part because he's no longer a freshman. He'll also be stronger and will play better position defense. Pardon is a ball hawk with an incredible talent to rebound and convert. Completely different game from Olah. Like comparing apples and oranges.

Demps' minutes will be replaced by Law and others. Tre was a fine player but the current team will play differently. I think this coming year's team will shoot well from distance.

There will be more length and quickness on the floor and I think that will help make this year's squad a better defensive team. Which is key to winning conference games.
