I watched this kid play in the Illinois state playoffs a few months back and was very impressed. He is a legit 6"5 and 215lbs and as his HUDL tape showws, he demonstrates surprising athleticism playing as a WR at that size. I think this kid will end up growing into a 240-250lb TE and could be a very good player. Iowa and Minnesota just offered and those two schools seem to have found some pretty good TEs in the recent past. I think the kid could project into a Maxx Williams type of player and Williams himself was a very lightly recruited two star prospect. I am surprised this kid is not ranked higher in the state rankings for prospects in Illinois. I hope we offer soon.

Highlights

The more tape I watch on this kid, the more he reminds me of former Joliet Catholic/Stanford/Indianapolis Colts star Coby Fleener. Unlike Fleener, I really hope we don't let this kid escape from our backyard. The kid is blowing up and I really believe he would be a terrific TE for us. The only thing I don't know about is his academic profile but everything else about this kid screams offer. I hope we end up offering.

From what I've heard, your concerns are valid.

Could the fact that NU has a SB position and not a true TE slot hurt them in recruiting this kid and other top tier TE's?

I don't think so and it was never an issue when I was there. The players can see our SBs being utilized in ways that best suit their skills -- Dickerson as more of an in-line blocker, Taylor as more of a slot WR, Vitale moving around the formation, etc.

Specific to this kid, he's more of an oversized WR than a true TE, so the SB position would at least theoretically fit his skills better than a "true TE" position.

I think we should avoid saying things like this. I know I wouldn't want my or my kid's academics record to be discussed by complete strangers in a nonchalant manner.

Where exactly is his academic record discussed? What I've heard could be completely incorrect, but is also one of the most plausible reasons that NU wouldn't be recruiting a highly-skilled kid from a well-regarded program in our home state. I guarantee you that the coaches are well aware of him.

I am more concerned about pronouncing his name.
My dog's name is Albert and although it took some getting used to, not the hardest name to pronounce.
