I once again had to listen to the game as opposed to watching it, but it appears as if Mr. Anderson is as promised!

Long and jackson carried over 300 times last year with only one lost fumble. With a underperforming and banged up ol, we cant play players with fumbling issues. Team first.

Corey Acker does not fumble, runs over DTs and blows by defensive backs. He catches the ball with one hand while blocking blitzing linebackers with the other. He is the only player allowed to call audibles. He also coaches Thorson on his mechanics as Thorson is dropping back. And he makes a really good quiche.

He sounds like the most interesting player in the wprld. He doesnt always get on the field but when he does he scores touchdowns. Stay purple my friend.

Let's have the kid run against an FBS team before we come to any conclusions. If you believe gcg, MRCat and the rest, playing EIU was like playing my son's middle school team.

In fairness to E-Cat, he probably doesn't see a lot of Dos Equis commercials in China.

This board is more humor-impaired than most. Are we supposed to use a special font when posting sarcastically?
No you don't need a special font. After you're done writing something that's sarcastic you write "(sarcasm alert)." I've been posting for over 5 years now, everyone should know this by now.

If a team like your son's middle school's forced NU in the first half to two 3-and-out, and to settle for FG's in two other occasions, then NU is immensely weaker than thought....and that doesn't even consider that the same team held NU to a single O-score in the second half (with a lot of reserves playing on both sides).
I'd rather believe that EIU is a lot better than your son's middle school team, and therefore beating them is a minimally decent accomplishment. Heck they were a top 5 FCS team 2 years ago, and a postseason team the season before, which should have helped them get some decent athletes.

I understand your little schtick. I get it. But at least try to come up with more than one idea that you simply shoehorn into every conversation. It would at least be a little more interesting that way.

I heard that the wake up call person at the team hotel was recently on vacation and changed her watch, but forgot to change it back when she re-entered the central time zone so EIU got wake up calls at 4:45 AM.

Could it be that it is because I am REPLYING to others who have raised the point? How hard is that to figure out?

This makes me laugh. NU was 4-0 and ranked 16th two years ago. Three years ago they won 10 games, including the Gator Bowl. Does that have anything to do with this NU team? Two years ago Stanford won 11 games and appeared in the Rose Bowl. Three years ago they won 12, including the Rose Bowl. Did that help them last Saturday against NU?

EIU doesn't even have the same coach they did two or three years ago. And, more importantly, they don't have an NFL talent at quarterback, either.

How does that contradict my point that their recent success (at the national level) must have helped them recruit some decent athletes? Of course, not at the level of a power 5 program, but decent nonetheless.

Fact is the highly populous and FB-talent rich state of Illinois (#9 or so nationally by FBS players) has only THREE FBS FB programs...of course some good players do go out of state, but many IL FB schoolies also go out of state (especially NU's). Because of this, a good IL FCS program (as EIU) can get fairly decent athletes out of the state's talent pool....Again, not at the level of a power 5 program, but decent nonetheless.

First, you are speaking again without any facts. The kid had a fumble in the spring and one on Saturday in his first live game against real competition in nearly two years. After the fumble, he ripped off a 22 yard run. He does not fumble in practice. I know because I asked those who know. Did you?
Secondly, he will get better but if you can't see that the kid has talent then you don't know the game. If you have never played or Coached at any level than you are just another fan with an outside opinion.

Last, it has only been two games and he only played in one. He has smaller hands like Ameer Abdullah, who also struggled early in his career but was able to overcome and the rest is well documented.

It's a long season, and the kid will be just fine. He has all the tools and will get better from the experience when given the chance.
Fair weather fans are so quick to right off a 19 year old kid after singing his praises just two weeks earlier. When his time comes and it will, you remember what you said today because I know he will.

This is an overreaction...especially for a post coming from Turk.

Everyone here really likes the kid but you keep failing to recognize the comparison i presented. He is already behind much more experienced backs so he has to take advantage of his chances. I wish him the best but he cant fumble the pill. He isnt abdullah yet so just stop it!

You missed my entire point as expected. The point was in reference to backs of comparable size. And I am sure he knows he cant fumble. He doesn't need someone who has never seen a field at this level to tell him that.

Did AA see much practice time during his RS year as he recovered from his hip injury? I thought it was his labrum, which can be a lengthy recovery. It would not surprise me if AA went a good year or more without any real contact on the practice field, which would be consistent with any issues handling the ball.

I think AA will be a significant contributor soon enough. He has burst that our other backs lack (even though Acker runs like an angry bull launched from a elecrtified slingshot).

From what I understand, no practice time until this spring. But as you stated, the recovery time is more lengthy, especially for a speed athlete. Tyson Gay had the same injury and although he is back on the track, has yet to reach his pre-surgery form.
My guess is that he is not 100% yet as speed is a large part of his game and needs more contact in practice to get himself ready to go.
He is just trying to do too much and prove his worth. He needs to settle down and continue to take reps in practice. He will be fine.

I was really impressed by his performance Saturday. He was quick, had good vision, and took hits. He will be a valuable contributor. RB has gone from one of the worst position groups in the Big 10 to one of the best.

That is the truth and has been a pleasant surprise to me. It's a great spot to have depth for a lot of reasons, one of which is; it is a spot where many people can get touches to keep everyone fresh with out disrupting a unit.

Relax. I really like the kid. But we have two quality backs in front of him so he has to take advantage of his opportunities. The competition at RB is at top level and Solomon Vault is another stud playing alot. Im sure the coaches think he has a bright future here otherwise they wouldnt have redshirted Moten.

I'm thinking that he will be the #1 back-up to JJ in a few weeks, with Long used in short yardage situations.

Wow, 5 whole years... That's really, really impressive.

He offers a whole different element and would give us speed behind thorson. There may even be some plays where he could b a better option than Jackson. Nothinghelps an OL better than raw speed. With an offense that still needs work with the ol and wr, why do we have anderson on the bench,.ie, why not go to a two back system if our wr are too slow and inexperienced to get open?

Close down the message boards, the kids don't need the info from us. And of course, that is the only reason why the board exists - so we, the trusted and knowledgeable, can help guide the team.

Well now that this is over, is there a Hilary Board - I think she could really use some help from our collective great minds.

Besides the fumble, he looked good out there, lonestar. Excited to see what he can do in the future.
