saw that a number of schools anointed their starting QB yesterday. UCLA is starting a true frosh! How long does our brain trust need to determine which guy has the best combination of skill set and leadership?

At this point I think fitz won't announce a starter...the thinking that it provides some edge against Stanford

It's a secret. Does anyone even know if purple and white is still the NU color.

Team knows but we will never maybe someone that goes to meet the team can pry it out
Tomorrow would seem to be an appropriate time. Kenosha done. But again, I would not be surprised to see two guys play meaningful minutes. I would guess that Oliver might have an initial edge and help the chance of winning but long term, I see others overtaking him if for no other reason than the OL performance favors someone with better mobility.

There's almost no reason to publicly announce a starting QB for the opener. The team will be well aware of who it is (whether one guy or multiple) and that's really all that matters.

Don't you know that Fitz has to release who the starting QB is to get fans excited about the year and for marketing purposes. I mean there have go to be 10s of people Park Ridge ready to buy season tickets if Alviti is named the starter and probably twice that Wheaton with their fingers on the phone ready to call the ticket office if Thorson gets the nod.

All folks from Park Ridge and Wheaton are standing in line as we speak waiting to buy season tickets. Heck, hear that plane loads of people from Louisiana are planning to descend on Evanston on 9/5. So it's obvious, Fitz needs to announce that all 3 QB's will start so more then 15,000 fans show up.

We're going to get 28,000-32,000 fans at the game regardless on who is the QB or when the QB announcement is. I would say 20,000 of the people in the stadium couldn't match the QB with their name if you put them in a line up.

I know I am in the minority on this board, but, yes, I wish Fitz would announce his starting QB. I hear all the arguments but I don't like Fitz' whole approach to secrecy and, more generally, the press. My sense of it is that BTN's coverage has been cut back on NU, first because NU has a small fan base, but second, because Fitz gives them little compared to most of the other schools.

What's the incremental gain for the program in doing so?

What is the loss? I really don't care all that much myself, and see this as no big deal either way. I don't buy this competitive advantage argument. Last year versus Cal they had an established stud QB so mixing in the unknown freshman caught us off guard. NU has by its own admission 3 QB's that haven't seperated themselves. Pretty sure they would prepare for both styles, starter named or not.

My prediction is that both QBs will play against Stanford (Thorson and Oliver) and that the coaches will need to see some actual game play before settling on a pure #1. If they haven't separated in practice, then the next step is to see who can handle the pressure and intensity of a real game.

I think so, too.

I think it will be Thorson and Alviti
