At least there can be some normalcy in today's world if you look for it

Distant travels are restrictive but a three hour drive to the Kenai Peninsula for net fishing added some sanity as well as 16 Sockeye (Red) salmon to add to the larder (OK, freezer.)

July 31st, last day for net fishing at the mouth of the Kenai.

A Sockeye in the right hand, with a mallet in the left. What's the purpose of the mallet?

I get it. When I fished as a kid, I just let them suffocate while flopping around in a bucket. Maybe bigger fish require more extreme methods, like a blow to the head with a mallet.

I guess it also sends the message to those still empty handed, “Don’t mess with my fish!”

When you make it back, an extra setting will be waiting.
