That game was terrible on all fronts. I'm usually not one to say "flush it," but that was just a classic Maryland beatdown. Can still win four of the last five, take one or two in the Big Ten Tournament, and get into the NIT.

I'm just hoping for a .500 BIG record and to do that Rutgers is an absolute MUST win and it won't be easy because they get energy on defense from their home crowd. Hopefully, their two guards won't get hot from 3 (they blow hot-and-cold) and the zone will befuddle them. Maryland handled it very well.

This is a good post. The only game left that would take a miracle is MSU. Even Maryland at our temporary place is winnable.

Fairly difficult to imagine we would lost to Rutgers at this point barring a significant injury. We've yet to lose a BIG game to a team ranked lower in KenPom than us, and Rutgers is 159 (last in the BIG, by far, right now). Our worst loss overall is to Georgia Tech at 114.

Obviously anything is possible, but we'll probably be a double-digit fave, even on the road.

The good news is, assuming his knee isn't seriously hurt, BMac will rebound from the worst game of his career and play well in Piscataway.

But don't sleep on RU....;)

Last game was the first time he looked truly healthy in awhile, so any retweaking is a concern. But we probably don't even need much from him if we can play defensively like we've had of late, since Rutgers offense is.well. significantly worse than ours, to be kind...

Wish I could be that confident but I saw Rutgers nearly beat Purdue at home and they had a solid win over Seton Hall there. This will NOT be easy!

We almost beat Purdue at Purdue tho, if we're counting almost wins. In terms of actual wins, there have been only 2 for Rutgers in their last 14. And those two were Wisky and Iowa. The Seton Hall win seems like a lifetime ago, You an be confident that we would have to play significantly worse than we've played lately and they would have to play significantly better than they have played of late, for us to lose.

Does “lately” not include today? I think we’ll beat Rutgers but if we put up a similar effort to what we just saw in College Park we can very easily lose.

Maryland played quite well today, consistent with their season-long quality play at home. Rutgers already has 8 losses at home. Maryland? Two.

Considering Rutgers played AT Nebraska yesterday and was only an 11 point dog, I’d say it’s pretty safe to say we won’t “be a double-digit fave”. I bet we are only favored by 3-4. As mentioned, Rutgers has given some really good teams problems this year, especially at home. Maybe we win by double digits, but definitely shouldn’t be favored by that much.

Sometimes I feel like @mikewebb68 has been in a coma since October, but strangely has the ability to comment on things he cannot perceive.

Yeah, I've been wrong a lot here, lol. Memba when we were 2-5 and people wereally on here predicting we would win 4-5 BIG games all season, and I set them straight.? Memba when people were saying Illinois was a good team after their fast start against the little sisters of the poor and I set them straight, again? Memba when people on here were trashing Scottie and I set them straight yet again? Not bad for a guy in a coma, huh?

One thing we as a people have agreed on since October is we’ve actually changed the word from “memba” to “remember”.

MD has been tough at home this year but not so good on the road

The line is up, and it's NU -3.

Guess the odds makers don't read KenPom....
Well I'm guessing this isn't the line of inquiry you were getting at, but interestingly enough this is literally exactly on what KenPom would suggest as a line, when interpreted properly. We are +10.36, they are +1.68 for a diff of 8.68. Adjust for expected number of possessions (~65 btw these two teams) and you get about a 5.75 pt difference on neutral court. Subtract home court advantage (2.5-3 pts) and, voila, NU -3.

You nailed it. Will be a close game, RU plays hard if not always well. Don't sleep on Rutgers!

Speaking of sleep...what’s with them making the game start at 9PM Eastern time? Did they think a Northwestern-Rutgers matchup was too attractive to potential attendees and needed to do something to drive ticket demand down?

This group can't sleep on anybody. Hopefully they understand that at this point in the season.
