Big Ten Basketball Media Day Notebook

The stuff about Ty Berry is exciting. Have been really rooting for him since NU picked him up. If he thinks he can fill Audige's shoes defensively (tall order) and improve his shooting (not such a tall order), he's going to be really good this year.

No one is really talking about him like they talk about Barnhizer or Nicholson making a leap - there's this idea that we already know what NU has in him - but if today is any indication, those within the team see it happening. Love hearing it. The season can't get here soon enough!

The thing about Ty is, it isn't so much of making a jump as it is returning to the form he showed in his first two years. He shot 37% and 39% from 3 in his first two seasons but only 29% last year. If he just returns to his average of his previous season it will be a huge plus for the NU offense. His defense was solid last year and there is no reason to think it will fall off this year baring injury.

Completely agree. He turned into an excellent defender last year. But, his shooting regressed as you noted. The missed shots hurt, but I'm guessing it also affected his confidence, which kept him from being more aggressive with his offensive game. If he can maintain the D, while getting some semblance of his shot back, he could be a real weapon. Excited to see!!
