I respectfully submitted to a close friend that tonight was our 2nd biggest win of all time. For me, the biggest was February 23, 1931. The 13-1 (8-1) Wildcats headed up to Williams Arena. In front of 12,182 Gopher fans (the largest ever to see a Big Ten basketball game), they challenged the top-division Gophers who were 7-2 in the conference. The 'Cats ran out to a 20-9 lead at halftime before running the lead to 43-15 lead before giving up the last 8 points of the game. That victory allowed the 'Cats to ensure at least a tie for the Big Ten Championship. Joe Reiff went off for 19 points. https://newspaperarchive.com/us/iow...py=1931&plo=northwestern-basketball-minnesota
"Northwestern has beaten Top 10 teams before, but with so much riding on this season and the quest to make the Big Dance, it’s difficult to think of a bigger victory."
