First day of a new season!!!

I don't care if they are playing St. Helen of the Blessed Shroud. I'm celebrating that incredibly wonderful and improbable season last year.

Then it's time to move forward. Does this group have the scoring and shooting I think it has? Do they have something in the ballpark of the same defensive toughness? 🤞🤞 🤞🤞🤞

Here's hoping today is the start of some consistency. 🍻

Does anybody know if Martinelli is playing?
The Big Ten website has a placeholder for the new Availability Reports, but there's nothing there.
Maybe it will work for Conference games?

Haven't been this excited for a season since 2017! The thing that probably makes me even more excited this time around is the extra expectation that NU will have good home crowds from the get go. I don't expect tonight to be a full house, but I am hoping it won't be the morgue that most of our November games usually are at WR.

I am still trying to find out if Ben Bryant is playing.

Second half they tightened the screws on D First 10-15 minutes, D was not there

He played but did not get a lot of minutes and don't recall him taking a shot. I liked Preston, Nice backup for Nicholson and a more complete game than backup center last year. I don't think Hunger even saw the floor. Not sure why Berry's minutes were so limited in second half. He did get a couple quick fouls in first half though. Barnhizer was a man on the boards but he did miss something like 5 or six layups in a row. Potential is there but they have to shoot better (where have we heard that before)

I think Berry had a bad sequence of missing a wide open shot, getting burned on defense, and then having a turn over. But I'm not 100% on that.

DIsappointing not to see Luke Hunger. Preston contributed but Luke seemed like he would at least make the rotation. Clayton showed he can give some minutes and be a big part of the rotayion next year. BB missed some shots but his rebounding help with this one. Scrappy team that may be a PF short but will be easy to root for.

wouldn't give up on Hunger just yet. I hope Collins gets him some playing time, but you know the coach sort of "tolerates" the big guys and loves the wings and guards.

3rd string center / 3rd string power forward is not an ideal spot on the roster.

Where would the minutes come from?
If everybody is healthy, Luke is the odd man out.
But if Nicholson, Preston, Martinelli or Barnhizer have to miss time, Hunger seems like the guy who would get minutes at the 4 or 5. (I can't see Mullins at the 4)
For that reason, I'd get him minutes against some of the softies we face in the non-conference.

And it was a tight game throughout so not really a chance to get third string in there. Hopefully a couple of these Pre Season games will give him some opportunity
