The day after the last day of the NFL season can be brutal. Three more coaches fired today including the resident fan favorite Matt Nagy. Also Zimmer out in Minnesota and Flores out in Miami. Someone is going to pick up Zimmer as a DC and love him. Do we know of any teams that need a DC.... hey.... wait a minute!!!

And as a Bears fan, let me say that I'd be happy if the Bears went out and got Flores to be the head coach.

Was Flores justified? It seemed like they were salvaging the season.

As a Bears fan, I wouldn't. We need a proven NFL Head Coach. Someone who has led their team to a Super Bowl. Harbaugh, Quinn or Doug Pederson would be higher on my list than a guy like Flores who would be on my Plan B list.

I really hope it's not Harbaugh, and I'm not a big fan of Pederson, who seemed to just kind of catch lightning in a bottle one season in Philadelphia. Quinn is definitely intriguing though. I'd be cool with that.

I don't necessarily think it's a smart move to say "we need someone who has led a team to a Super Bowl". No reason to limit yourself to a select few based on one bit of criteria. Just my two cents.

You mean like John Fox?
Fair point but Fox was not a guy who had experienced much success since the Super Bowl and he was in the twilight of his career hoping for one last pay check. I don’t think that description applies to any of those three guys. More than anything, I want a true culture builder who has a track record of winning, rather than focusing on a guy who has competency on offense or defense. Ron Rivera would be another name that I’d embrace. Chasing the hot coordinator and running the risk of completely whiffing is not something the Bears can afford to do at this critical juncture. With the move to Arlington and the building of a new stadium on the horizon, there is no better time than now for the McCaskey’s to pull out all the stops necessary to build a winning team. The move to Arlington and support for A new stadium will come a lot easier with the overwhelming public support that would come with a Bears renaissance.

Yes.

As much as I dislike Khaki Man's style, he is an outstanding football coach. He did wonders in SF, but could not get along with the GM. His brother is a good coach too.
I want the Bears to hire Jim Harbaugh because it will damage Michigan, but I don't think they will do the smart thing. But we can REALLY dream that they would hire a different guy, that has NFL DC experience....

I don't think Zimmer would be a bad hire if you want a defensive minded coach. HIs Minnesota teams did pretty well in the beginning, but I think Minny needs a quarterback.

I hope it was evident that I was talking about JON

Michigan would do fine without Hardballs. It is easily a top 10 job. No more RichRods or Hoke’s are needed. Matt Campbell would do fine despite a downer this year for ISU.

What a great day to acquire a quality NFL level coordinator or Assistant Coaches. Guess What? We won't
Not sure about this. NFL guys have a tendency to come to the college game and make things too complicated for the players. They also mistakenly think college players have the ability to do things they can’t.

Jeez, another thread about how Fitz made a mistake in hiring JON?

Sign me up! J/k.

Problem is we still have Pace and he has already mortgaged the team so far into the future they won't be worth watching for another 5 years

Perhaps, but he's the epitome of Michigan, an arrogant jerk with entitled Michigan attitude. I can't stand the guy. All this talk about his struggles - one OSU win, zero bowl, Sparty struggles, mask the fact that he's a damn good coach, and probably better than anyone they can get, even someone as up-and-coming as Campbell. I was hoping they'd lose patience with him and fire him before he "figured it out". Now, OSU is a tall task, and they got pantsed by GA, but I believe he has figured it out and, if he stays, that they will be 10-12 wins, ad infinitum. That means I have to tolerate a successful Michigan AND their jerk of a coach for like 20 years. I'd prefer to take my chances with Campbell or Fickell.

I am listening live to the Zoom presser. George has been doing all the talking.

No real change in the front office structure. Ted Phillips remains CEO, but the next GM will report directly to ownership (George) rather than Ted, who apparently will be occupied trying to close on the Arlington deal and getting a stadium going.

Bill Polian will consult George on the hiring process. Phillips will have input as before. The Bears have a new VP of DEI. She will have a role in the search process.

EDIT: Lamar "Soup" Campbell is a new VP of Player Engagement who will also have input on the coaching hire.

No compelling desire to have a GM in place before the head coach is hired. They will hire a head coach first if the opportunity presents itself.

No love lost between George and David Haugh, apparently. I could chill my six pack Yeungling on the icy exchange between these two.

It’s interesting (/weird/wrong) to hire a coach before a GM, isn’t it? Shouldn’t the GM have a say in his or her direct report?

In theory, yes. What is more scary is that the only guy in the process with any experience running operations (running a football team) at an executive level is a guy who has not worked in a decade. Polian is 79 years old. Beyond that, it's George, Ted, the new VP of DEI, and Ned.

I think that’s highly unlikely. The rumor mill is that a GM hire could be made in the next week to ten days. The blogger at DaBearsBlog was spot on in terms of what was going to happen today and has also been first to report other past moves in the organization. He seems to have good sources and I would recommend a follow if you are a Bears fan. This is what he posted this morning.

Olin Kreutz on WSCR after George called him a liar during the presser. A reporter asked about the story where the Bears allegedly offered Kreutz $15 an hour to help coach the linemen.

Kreutz is livid. I thought he might laugh it off. He's not.

Oh, the Bears. No one f*cks up football like the Bears. On a day where the idea is to look forward, the news is orbiting around a very pissed off Bears HOFer.

Why do some of you rejoice and agree that Nagy and Pace had to go yet defend Fitz for clear mismanagement? Nagy was a playoff coach for 2 years and COTY in 2018 with a NFC North division crown (as good as a B1G West title), Every even year the Bears went to the playoffs (Same as NU going to a Bowl).

I can make more parallels but you get the point. Nagy had less "control" compared to Fitz, worse facilities, and is paid less than Fitz. So why be against Nagy yet support Fitz?

What’s Nagy’s graduation rate?

How are the Bears doing in the transfer portal?

I survived the Dark Ages at NU. Then I saw Fitz play a lead role in taking the Purple to Pasadena. Then I saw him become a head coach at far too young an age, and start winning. Then he won a bowl game. Then another. Then he got a new facility built. Then he won two West titles in three years.

If you cannot see that Nagy and Pace were borderline incompetent and leading the Bears in the wrong direction, then you don't know your head from your arse. Trying to draw a parallel between the two situations is like comparing Boone's Farm to Chateau Lafite Rothschild.

i can say that about Ditka or Lovie. ALL coaches have shelf lives. If you think 2021 was going in the "right" direction then I can catergorize you in the DU(delusional and unreachable) NU fan. DooNoos.
