I recall in past years BMac has struggled against OSU, Matta likes to overplay high screens and the length and athleticism of OSU's guards really frustrated his playmaking ability. It'll be a good test for him, and if they do double those ball screens we will need the rest of the team to step and make open shots. Another Iowa performance (10/1 ratio please?) would be downright lovely.

The good news is we have more than enough athletic wings to defend Loving and the rest of them. Vic and Sanjay can man up on any of them, and Scottie has taken a big step up on D this year too. Actually between those guys and Pardon down low, there really aren't many matchups in the conference that scare me this year. Swanigan + the depth of the Purdue front line is potentially a problem, but outside of that we have the players to match up well against most anyone.

BMac has struggled this season as well in situations where the defense has doubled him on high screens. He's not always quick enough to dribble around or through them. Brown does have that quickness, however, and we may see him more if BMac struggles. Both of them have to limit the turnovers against quick and aggressive defenders.

I like Brown plenty, but I think there is a bit of backup QB syndrome with people on him.. he's talented for sure but needs a lot of refining. He may be quick, but he also likes to play hero ball too much. I think we end up with better quality shots with BMac running the offense by far. I will add one caveat before moving on -- I do think Brown is a bit more decisive and effective against the press than BMac.

Now to the stats- BMac has 51 turnovers in 635 minutes this year, which is 3.2 TO per 40. We've criticized him for that because it's too high for someone of his talent, and cause some of them have seemed to be lazy sort of turnovers from not being careful with the ball. Brown has 26 turnovers in 286 minutes, or 3.6 TO per 40, and with the ball in his hands a lower % of the time than BMac does when he's on the floor. BMac is 87-234 this year, shooting 37% which has been wildly frustrating for us as fans... while Brown is 38-119 shooting 32%.

I like Brown a lot and think he has tons of potential for the future, but I have a feeling if he played 30 minutes a game people would start to like him a lot less. Collins has the right idea playing him 15 mins per game as a change of pace guy. We can hand him the keys to the car later in his career.

Brown is definitely not ready for 30 min of big ten basketball. BMac is easily our best distributor and as you said people are frustrating by his turnover rate but that I also feel is because we know BMac is capable of playing at a high level. I also feel most of the excitement of brown is for the future as he shows lots of potential. Honestly isn't awesome to have a pretty a good chance to be going to the dance and then step back and realize the team is probably going to be a lot better next year. Collins has had me so excited for "next year" with his recruiting I love it. Let's go dancing!
