Ouch! Assistant coach Talor Battle leaves Northwestern for Ohio State.

He’s the older brother of star point guard Boo Buie, who also left Evanston after exhausting his eligibility.

I can't say I'm surprised he left NU, but I'd rather he left the conference as well.

That's unfortunate and I agree I would rather see him not competing against us. Still, he did a great job for us - grateful for that - and his reputation is well-earned.

The past problem of NU for coaches is that it wrecked good coaching resumes. It's a high-class problem that we are now building resumes. Just hope we have Lowery solid for a few more years at least.

Wow. That hurts, In hindsight, I guess we should have been expecting it, with Buie gone.

Too many possibilities to try to read into it, but our guard play did pick up with Battle and McIntosh on staff.

Great chance to bring in a specialist for the big guys. We need it.

Would be nice to see a little explanation attached, but why not leave everybody guessing WTF is going on?

OK, if it were financial, NU could surely have paid him equally to keep him, so it looks like more than that. Maybe he was here mainly for Boo. Maybe he wants the freedom to coach where admissions are less restrictive.

Whatever, NU would have preferred to keep him, but since he's gone, maybe NU can do even better. CCC has some real success behind him. The vacancy is attractive. Let's assume CCC will insure the salary is attractive. CCC has gotta be wired to the coaching community. Talk and smile, CCC. Close a couple star players while you're at it.

Can remember when Talor's hire was met with ?s or a lack of enthusiasm (geeze, time has flown by).

Sad to see him go (especially to a conference rival), but it's good to see assistants on the staff desired by other programs.

Plus this is an opportunity to add "new blood" with different perspectives, etc.

If I were CC, would ensure that the salary pool for assistants gets a significant bump.

Within reason, the program needs to pay more due to the higher CoL.

I think the reaction was mostly “I remember him” and “can he coach?”

He had previously been on the Penn State staff for the season in which Pat Chambers resigned weeks before the season started.

It’s good when coaches are in demand, but bad when they go to a competitor.

Regardless, I am grateful for Battle’s time at NU and for whatever role he had in keeping his brother at NU. What a run it’s been, and

I’ll admit, my first thought was…would Tavaras want to return to NU? Love that guy.

I am sorry to see him go. We have BMAC for guards, so I am hoping we get an assistant that will focus on bigs. We have James, but how much longer will he want to work.

Reaffirms just how much the coaching business is about relationships; of course, we have experienced how that can backfire.
