Butler beats #1Villanova 66-58 nfm

And Minny at #39; excellent opportunity for us.

Minnesota is actually RPI #9 right now. Who knows where they will wind up by the end of the season... But, right now, a Top 25 RPI victory would be a shining spot on our Tournament resume.

For what it's worth, Sagarin has us as a 2-point favorite, and kenpom has us as a 3-point favorite at home.

Go 'Cats!

Is Minnesota really that good? Before the season, I'd kind of relegated them to the bottom 3-4 teams in the Big Ten. To this point, though, they haven't really looked the part. Guess my question is, is their record more a product of smoke and mirrors (and a bit of a soft schedule), or does Little Ricky actually have a decent thing going?

So far, it seems like the Gophers are legitimately really good. They have some new pieces--a transfer Reggie Lynch from Illinois State at center, who has been nice for them. More noteable is 6'8" freshman Amir Coffey (brother of NU Women's Nia Coffey) who is kicking ass with 30+ minutes and 12 ppg. And Nate Mason is one of the best PGs in the league (15 ppg, 6 apg). The Gophers have 4 players averaging double-figures scoring and they are kenpom's 17th ranked defense in the country!

Minnesota has beaten 6 top 100 kenpom teams, including Purdue at Purdue. Their only losses were to AP #12 (Coaches #13) Florida State and to Michigan State in OT--in a game that Minnesota should have won after leading by double digits most of the game.

I, too, have been waiting for the bottom to drop out on this Gophers squad... But, it might not happen. On paper, they are up there with Purdue and Wisconsin in the top tier of the B1G right now.

And not for nothing, Texas took down a decent Oklahoma St team last night. Not a bad start to the week!

Didn't they beat PU?

We match up well against Minny. I think we have the edge when it comes to coaches though. The apple didn't fall far from the tree considering Pitino when it comes to ethics. Hopefully, CC will be one of the deciding factors in tonite's matchup. We really need this game. Getting off to a good start in league play will lift the Cats' spirits and morale- let's get it done tonite!!
