Can Pardon and JVZ get in the ballpark of Olah and Kreisberg?

I'm wondering what the Cats need from Pardon and JVZ while Olah is down. I'm also wondering what's realistic.

Here are Olah and Kreisberg's stats from conference play last year.

(points/g ... rebounds/g ... blocks/g ... fouls/g ... win shares/40 mins)

Olah (18 games, 30.6 mins/g)
12.2 ... 6.6 ... 1.8 ... 2.6 ... .115
Kreisberg (15 games, 7.4 mins/g)
1.5 ... 1.2 ... .1 ... 1.1 ... .002

First of all, NU only had six wins last year, so I think they're going to need a tad more production ... somewhere from this position. And look at the stats against this year's lousy schedule.

First 12 games
Olah (12 games, 26.8 mins/g)
12.8 ... 6.5 ... 2 ... 2.5 .... .230
JVZ (8 games, 13.6 mins/g)
4.1 ... 4.0 ... 1.4 ... 3.1 .... ???

Loyola - MD without Olah
JVZ (17 mins)
6 ... 5 ... 3 ... 1 ... ???
Pardon (23 mins)
6 ... 4 ... 1 ... 2 ... ???

I'd be happy as a pig in shit if JVZ and Pardon averaged 12 ppg. Anyone think JVZ can average 8 ppg with more time he's going to receive?

If the two-headed monster can average 8 ppg with more production from another position, that would be a good start.

If somehow they can get those 9-10 r/g, 3-4 blk/g and stay out of foul trouble, the Cats might be able to survive until Olah gets back.

Very interesting. I'm surprised to say the least that Alex actually had worse OOC stats than his 2015 Big 10 stats. Just shows stats are for losers!

I wouldn't look for more than 7 and 6 from JVZ and DP in the Big 10. They will get their points opportunisitically off offensive rebounds a,d dishes, neither has the skills to be a post-up player against most Big 10 teams.

They both have the post up moves to score. What they don't have is Alex's mid range touch. I'm not sure which games you've been watching, but both have post moves to score.

He is also playing about 5 less minutes per game. It is OOC and the purpose is in many cases to develop other players

It will be interesting to see what the lineup looks like if the game is close down the stretch because both Jvz and Pardon look to be big liabilities on the free throw line. Olah's big 1-and-1 conversion in the final two minutes against DePaul when we were down three was an overlooked contribution to that win.

Based on his high school film that is his best trait. He is very solid under the basket.

He has plenty of skill and plenty of moves, but he's not strong enough to execute them at this level yet.

I think the hope for the redshirt was mostly based on physical development than any lack of skill/ability.

Revised statement ...

If Pardon and JVZ can average 30 p/g and 15 r/g, the Cats might be able to survive until Olah gets back.

Is that too much to ask?

For the moment, we'll ignore how Pardon cranked up the stats sheet.

Fun game!!
