Carl Richardson, 2020 QB, signed

His release seems... interesting. People who watch more tape than I do will have to expand upon that.

Evasiveness and top-end speed seem good enough.

Kind of reminds me of Marty in some ways. For what it's worth, he's right around the same ranking as Marty and Whittaker, too.

Not bad at all for this late in the cycle. All it takes is one.

His release is a bit atypical, but doesn't really concern me. Ball still gets out pretty quickly and pretty cleanly.

I’ve heard some QBs and QB Coaches say that as long as they can make the throws they need to, footwork is more important than necessarily changing their motion or release. Thinking back on some of the misses Hunter had this past season, more than once, his footwork was a bit out of whack on some of those throws.

Plus it looks like the ball is coming out ten feet in the air at his height compared to others.

Here's the tweet from Fitz:

Has anybody watched his tape?
Amazing they got those banners made and up so quickly...

/s (for those of you requiring humor assistance)

His release is weird as his elbow stays low--well below his shoulder on many throws. A lot of guys with low release points tend to be near sidearm types, but his delivery is more vertical. Just low.

Seems to have decent arm strength--actually more than Wright, IMO.

Runs well enough too. Not a burner but evasiveness.

My thoughts EXACTLY. Leach wanted him? Ok in my book, sight unseen.

Read the article I posted. Wazzu pulled their offer during the season, presumably because Richardson was not willing to commit until after his HS season ended. If this is accurate, it does not change the fact that Leach liked him enough to offer him in the first place.

Yes, great call. That's exactly who he looks like when throwing. Also happy to see Fresno State offered him. They've had a lot of good Abs over the years and know where to find undervalued California HS talent.

And, you know, this part as well:

Going into the classroom, what is your cumulative GPA?

“My GPA is 4.33.”

Have you taken the ACT and/or SAT yet?

“Yes. I scored a 1520 on the SAT.”

Guys, thanks for posting the articles, very good intel. Additionally, kudos to Fitz & company (coach Jake?). I think this QB may be equal or better than other previous options, time will tell. But his leadership, commitment and family background suggest a level headed competitor ready to take on the next challenge.

Yes on Coach Jake’s involvement.

Because he was running for his life as soon as they snapped him the ball.

I remember the "Dash Protection" play in the Stanford game. The announcers said that McCall called that "Dash Protection" when the QB is snapped the ball and then runs for his life ("dashes") away from the pocket so that maybe he'll have time to make a throw. Except that even with the dash protection, Hunter had a defender in his face before he could get the throw off.

The moment I knew that McCall HAD to be fired was when I learned that he actually had a name for that horrible play: dash protection.

The more I learn about this young fella, the more I like. I am wondering what he is going to study at NU?? Sounds like and is, evidently really smart and talented academically too. Maybe premed or prelaw?

That thing won’t exist until at least the spring.

A bit of an exaggeration there. I’m sure Bajakian has a rough framework of personnel packages, formations, and route combinations, but will tweak/add heavily once he gets in-person evaluations on guys in spring ball. It wouldn’t work to go into spring ball just saying “welp, let’s just roll the ball out there and see what happens.”

Maybe the naysayers who cried doom and gloom over NU's future after this season will now also celebrate how NU's reputation pulled this kid in. Nah!
