Northwestern hasn't had a verbal commitment for its Class of 2015 since Oct. 5, but there is still some work to be done and several prospects in the hunt for the last scholarship slots.

Rivals Midwest recruiting expert Josh Hemholdt recently posted stories on two prospects drawing interest from the Wildcats:

- Three-star wide receiver Grant Perry of Birmingham (Mich.) Brother Rice picked up an offer from NU last Friday night and plans to visit this weekend for the Illinois game.

- Quarterback Brandon Childress of Baldwin (Mich.) is taking another look at football after deciding to pursue basketball, and Northwestern is one of the schools he's hearing from.

In addition to those guys, I worked the phone over the weekend and caught up with a few of the players that are also in the mix as the Wildcats look to complete their class before national signing day on Feb. 4, 2015.

Three-star athlete Billy McCrary III may be back in play for the Wildcats. The speedster from Leander (Texas) Rouse committed to SMU in June, but the departure of head coach June Jones and an 0-10 record has McCrary looking at other options. One of them is Northwestern.

The 5-foot-11, 183-pound McCrary picked up an offer from the Cats in May, shortly before he committed to the Mustangs. He began drawing interest from NU and several other programs after his impressive performance at a Nike Combine, when he put up a 4.48 laser-timed 40-yard dash and a 40.8-inch vertical leap. His SPARQ score of 125.73 ranked second in the state and 10th in the nation at the time.

McCrary was boarding a plane when I reached him by text last night but I hope to connect with him soon.

Three-star athlete Isaac James has set his official visit to Northwestern. The 5-foot-11, 180-pounder has the option of playing either cornerback or wide receiver for the Cats and will visit Evanston on the weekend of Dec. 5-7, when Northwestern expects to have several prospects and commitments on hand.

James narrowed his list to a final four of Northwestern, Indiana, Missouri and Wisconsin some time ago. He took an official visit to Wisconsin in October. He will visit Indiana on the weekend of Dec. 12, after his visit to Northwestern. He hopes to visit Missouri but has yet to schedule anything.

Playing quarterback, James has led Carmel (Ind.) to a 13-0 record this season. The Greyhounds take on Indianapolis (Ind.) Ben Davis for the state championship on Friday.

Two-star safety Jordon Williams of Houston (Texas) Jersey Village is hoping to get an invitation to take an official visit to Northwestern, but, has he put it, "that's up to the coaches."

The 6-foot-1, 195-pounder has an offer from the Wildcats and is also considering Louisville, Houston, Memphis and North Texas. Williams' situation is complicated by injury -- he tore the lateral meniscus in his knee on Oct. 9 in a 28-24 loss to Houston Cypress Creek. He had surgery to repair the knee and is currently wearing a brace. He will start rehab in three weeks and expects to be fully recovered by March.

He says he will likely take his official visits in January, after he gets the brace off.

Attempts to reach three-star athlete Justice Shelton-Mosley were unsuccessful. The 5-foot-11, 185-pounder from Sacramento (Calif.) Capital Christian previously said he wanted to make a decision by the end of this month. His final schools are Northwestern, Cal, Boston College, Harvard and potentially Vanderbilt. He is listed by Rivals as a wide receiver, but Northwestern is recruiting Shelton-Mosley as a cornerback.
