Catching up with good ol' No. 24, SI cover boy Darnell Autry

We reminisce with star running back Darnell Autry on the 20th anniversary of Northwestern's 1995 run to the Rose Bowl.

Larry Watts' story: Catching up with Darnell Autry

A friend of mine called me up and said, "Hey, do you want my copy of SI with D.A. on the cover?" "Sure I'll be right over," My wife was out and had the car so I took the Company vehicle (a no,no) it was only about a thee minute drive. I hit a deer. The most expensive magazine I ever purchased.

Now THAT'S a funny story!!

I always thought that if somehow DA could have improved his footspeed, he would have been a starting NFL back. He had exceptional balance and power, but lacked burst. Perhaps a trainer might have made a difference, as he alluded to.
Appreciate what he did for NU especially given it wasn't all wonderful for him but if he had stayed one more year he might have developed further.

He was a very good B1G back for Northwestern. Thanks for sharing links to stories.
