Moore is a PG from Chicago (Morgan Park) and originally committed to Memphis but decommitted when Pastner left and ended up at Cal.

He started as a freshman this past year (and averaged 12 pts/game) but is transferring to be close to his sick father. We recruited him and I think he visited we but did not make his final 8 last year.

I'd assume we have a decent shot this time if he truly wants to be close to his father. If that is the case, he may seek a waiver to play immediately. I don't think he'd want to be a backup to B Mac but if he has to sit out a year, then we will really be in need of a PG to replace B Mac.

Seems Mizzou would have the edge with Martin now running the show there. How close to home does Moore want to be? I can think of a good basketball program at a top notch academic institution that would be an hour or so from Morgan Park.

That's too bad for us. Believe the old rule used to be a player could ask for a hardship waiver if he was within 100 miles of home. (Champaign is 120 miles from Morgan Park.)

I'm pretty sure he'll still be looking for that hardship waiver, but the result is gaining a redshirt year rather than immediate playing time eligibility.

Cal is an easier commute than Mizzou

Yes actually. And though he went to Morgan Park, that doesn't mean he lived on the south side. Not sure where his Dad is but the deeper into the city you go the longer the drive to U of I. It is less likely that he lived further south than Morgan Park because that is pretty far south in the city. There is not a lot of Chicago south of Morgan Park.

He would fit what we need perfectly -- a Chicago PG to lead us into the new arena with Law, Pardon, and a really good group around them. And he wouldn't need playing time this year. Illinois actually has Lucas and Coleman-Lands on the roster ahead of him, and DePaul is a dumpster fire. On the merits, we have to be a strong candidate to land him.

I agree that it really seems like a natural fit.

And all you have to do is get to the airport, get through TSA and wait two hours for the flight. Course you could always get bumped

I lived in Morgan Park (Beverly/Morgan Park). I lived in Missouri.

Nine times out of ten, you'll get to Cal in half the time.

I live in the Bay Area and have seen Charlie Moore play several times. He is the real deal and was thrown into a starting role too quickly at Cal. He's incredibly skilled as a passer and scorer but Cal's coach Cuonzo Martin did not help him with a stodgy offensive game plan. With a PG like Moore, Ivan Rabb should have been scoring 20+ ppg but they never ran the right plays. If we get him, and hopefully we have the inside track, NU will be in great shape at PG after BMac graduates

No chatter so far on NU even being interested or involved with Moore. Seeing reports of Kansas showing interest along with speculation of Moore to UoI or Missouri. Wish I had some idea what CCC and co are working on / what the plan is. The only "recruit" with any mention of an NU visit is E Brown. With this being Easter weekend, seems appropriate to ask, where are the eggs??

They are hidden.

No competition from Mizzou here. Not seeing any chatter whatsoever that NU is in the picture, though. Odd.

I haven't seen anyone mentioned with his recruitment besides chatter that Illinois is a favorite. Illinois has another visit scheduled with Mark Smith, so if they get him, they may have enough guards to pass on Moore.

Kansas is close to Chicago? Ok...

Strikes me as odd that NU doesn't even seem to be getting a look. Maybe no interest from NU's end? Can't imagine why.

Kansas is great basketball, though, and following in the footsteps of Frank Mason I can understand being enticing. I'd rather him go there than UoI.

I think that may arise from last years recruitment. Some murmurs of Charlie Moore's " handlers" wanting something in return for his commitment

Hasn't he already kind of said thanks but no thanks to NU twice already? Illinois at least has a new staff as a selling point, not sure if Kansas pursued him the other two times

Is he using the Ty Isaac definition of transferring closer to home?

His transfer was not to be close to home. His transfer was.....you're all smart enough to see for yourself.

Per his twitter page, Moore has now officially committed to Kansas. Glad he's out of the B1G. Great opportunity for him to play at a perennial championship contender. Hope he sees the floor.
