Chris Collins talks about NU's 'lofty goals' for 2017-18

McIntosh also talked about winning championships in his press conference. I like that we're embracing the expectations instead of being shy about them. Kind of like what Collins talked about after Michigan, about facing the pressure and the expectation to make a tournament.

BMac also said his goal was to be first team All Big 10. Kind of surprised he spoke about a personal accolade but I hope he achieves his goal!!

But as a PG, getting to that goal likely means we do pretty good. So I am fine with this personal goal.

BMac does not lack for confidence. It's a lot of what makes him the player he is.

I think Sweet 16 would be a nice goal for this team. Once all the reinforcements come in from the 18' class, the goals should be even more elite. Gosh, I almost can't believe I'm writing this- when Carmody was coach, the goal was bs like a winning record or the NIT. Now, everything is different. I can go to games expecting to see a Wildcats win, not just to see the stars from other teams play.

I'm glad he's outspoken and setting that goal for himself and stating it publicly, rather than the usual "whatever it takes for the team, etc., etc."

They're not mutually exclusive. He will likely only be First Team All-Big Ten if NU is one of the top 3 teams in the conference.

Yes, Collins took that BS and smashed it. It is all about holding the program to a higher standard and then meeting it. It can be done. But, for some, they just don't believe and think the higher standards are beyond our reach instead of our destiny and God given right.

Notice how the same people who defended Carmody and thought that was as good as it could get are the same who defend the incompetence on our football staff?

I'd like to see a Final 4 run this year. I'm not saying it's gonna happen. I'd like to see it, and I don't think it is out of the question.

There's really no way to set an expectation of making the Final Four, for just about any program out there. Only if you're a No. 1 seed will you be likely favored to make it that far. And, of course, that doesn't always pan out. There is a difference between an aspirational goal and an expectation.

Sweet 16 is the next step. To get there, without springing an upset, means being a 4 seed or better. That's tough, but not outside the realm of possibility. And then at that point it's mere minutes of game time from the Final Four.

A) Is there anybody here who doesn't want to see a Final Four?

B) A F4 a possibility? My initial thought was this is just ECat spewing as he does sometimes.

But on second thought, it's not that wacky a concept. If the Cats get improvements from a few players (let's say Law, Pardon, Benson and Falzon), a little upswing from the new guys and a favorable draw ... hmmm?

I'm with ya, ECat. It's out there, but it's a trip to the moon - not a manned flight to Mars. It's doable.

A good thought for October, ECat.
