Seeing as how Signing Day is typically a non-event around Evanston, seems like today is a good day to take a run through our recruits' senior tape. I'm keeping this one on The Rock so that we can be a little more candid in our opinion of the tape. Let's keep it civil and on this board, eh?
As always, click the prospect's name to get to their tape. Apologies upfront as this will probably get pretty long and might have to be broken up across two (or three) separate posts.
Here we go!
RB Jesse Brown -- His one-cut, downhill running style reminds me a bit of a slightly more dynamic Mike Trumpy (which isn't a bad thing, by the way) but with a little less top-end speed. His primary adjustment will be operating primarily out of the spread rather than in single-back or I-formation, where his downhill style can really shine. Hard to tell how much room he has for physical development, but doesn't look like he'll grow into a bruiser. Fortunately, he's got plenty of time to learn/develop in our stable of RBs.
DB Brian Bullock -- Pretty happy to see him playing safety on his senior tape, as I think he fits better there than at CB. He's a pretty physical kid, but a little stiff in his pedal and transition to play CB if you ask me. I'm sure the hope is that he grows into a Campbell-style safety who can be physical in the run game while still athletic enough to cover. Will probably need a year or two to develop physically.
DB Roderick Campbell -- Hard to get a feel for his size as he seems a bit longer than 5-11 180 might indicate. In any event, he's got a very smooth hip turn and fluid transitions though his top-end speed is just OK for a top-flight corner. Solid ball skills. He could/should thrive in Hank's scheme that shifts between zone and man. It's weird to think about having a stocked depth chart at CB, but GREAT problem to have.
DL Tommy Carnifax -- Tyler Scott is an easy comp because of the high school, but there are plenty of similarities on tape as well. Doesn't blow you away with athleticism, but seems like he'll fit right in as the kind of multiple down, grinder-type DEs we've had the past few years (Scott, Browne, Lowry, Gibson, etc.). It's obviously a highlight tape, but he seems like a high-effort kid who just likes contact. With our questionable depth at DE, he might have to contribute sooner than ideal but seems physically ready to do so.
WR Ramaud Chiaokhiao-Bowman -- Pretty big, long kid who's definitely a strider. Pretty good body control for a bigger kid. Not exactly playing top-flight competition, but at least he seems clearly the best athlete on the field. Will have to adjust to the BCS-level in a big way as all his spins, cuts, etc. with the ball in his hands just flat aren't going to work. Could use a redshirt to develop physically and get faster, but our WR corps might be "all hands on deck" for the next couple years.
