Imagine what he could do at an SEC school. Best of luck and glad he still has some gas in that tank.
Plus he has recruits and players he can bring with (all academically eligible btw)
He's just axe grinding. He's saying he wants coach not only to go to SEC but to take NU recruits. As if they care about academic eligibility except at VandyWhy would an SEC school want a position coach who was fired from Northwestern? I don't think SEC schools even want to poach the Northwestern coaches who are fully successful and still on staff.
Ok so I hope Coach Long ends up any place (SEC or anywhere) he is happy at. He has coached many players who have landed in the NFL. That is impressive considering the challenges that NU presents. Why would an SEC school want a position coach who was fired from Northwestern? I haven't seen many complaints about the D line here and many of us were surprised that this is one the coaches to go. Long punched well above his weight class and gave Wisconsin and Iowa offenses fits.
I was imagining what he could do at another school. With so many defensive players from NU in the portal, I was thinking if players here would follow coach Long.
Maybe I’m misremembering but our DL sure looked effective despite several key injuries in 2020. Except for the MSU and OSU games well, where, you know. While true that Marty has put players in the NFL, it’s been a very VERY long time since we’ve had an effective DL group as a whole. We’ve had one or two standout guys at a time (Adebawore, Gaziano, etc.), but the group as a whole has been pretty sorely lacking. There’s a problem if your recruiting and development gets to the point where Carmine Bastone is playing meaningful B1G reps.
Reality is that unless the new DC is an internal hire, a new DC would want to bring in some new blood and go younger and Long was the only slot that would do both. He was odd man out, Someone besides the DC had to go and he was it.Ok so I hope Coach Long ends up any place (SEC or anywhere) he is happy at. He has coached many players who have landed in the NFL.
