Coaching carousel has started

If Gragg was really incompetent he would have made Coach Gynk interim HC instead of Braun. Or maybe we just got lucky.

I doubt any big program would look at Braun; they're looking for super proven guys that they can toss a boatload of money at like Oregon's Lanning or Washington's DeBoer who may not yet be in the $8+ million/yr range.

We should end up with Braun signing as HC here on a 4-5 year deal with a buyout that isn't crazy (starts at $8-10 million and falls by $2-3 million a year would be reasonable).

He's had immediate success here and earned himself a window of opportunity while the stadium is being rebuilt. Doubt he finds a situation that's as good of a setup, and for us, given the players like him, it feels obvious at this point to keep him. He'll catch up on recruiting like Fitz did. Coaches that players like to play for figure out the recruiting part of it.

Frankly, I think we got lucky that Braun was hired early this year and was clearly the highest ranking staff member who was 100% clean and could be presented to the public as an acceptable option.

Having said that, Gragg/Schill should just take the easy route and let him run the team given we're winning games and the players like him; it's so obvious at this point that it's hard to imagine them screwing this up, but a lot of obvious things got screwed up this past offseason so who knows.

David Braun will be head coach at an FBS program next year. I hope it is at NU, but I have my doubts about campus leadership. They have proven themselves to be somewhat incompetent.

Based on his performance, Braun will definitely be a head coach somewhere in FBS. Probably not at a P5 school - other than NU - because of his lack of offensive experience and success. Major programs are all about offense these days, although after watching how some of the biggest names are virtual sieves it seems to me that they might be smart to pay a little more attention to defense.

I can see Braun getting $2-3 mil from the A&M's of the world to coach defense if for some reason the head coaching deal doesn't work. The world is his oyster.

That I agree with fully, I think there'll be a team that would easily make him among the highest paid DCs in the country after he completely turned around this defense here. That much will be obvious to every major program.

All depends on what he wants to do, but usually after an up and coming young coach gets their first taste of the HC gig, it's hard to go back to being DC unless they completely flame out as a HC. Would have to think he'll be a HC somewhere for the next few years (presumably here or a G5 position).

Boise though? Or as less weathly programs lose their guys (say Leipold to aTm- yes I know he said he wouldn't leave). Those programs probably won't throw 8M a year for a top guy

Sure those are possibilities, but I just think he'd want to stick around here if the best alternatives are lateral moves, at least he's built some equity here based on this year.

It's not a lateral move if a high g5 / low p5 offers a multi/multi head coach role while Gagg is in the back room doing a Mel Tucker imitation

Oh I agreed with that, but I'm assuming we put forward what would be an acceptable offer as soon as the season ends.

Heck his agent should start discussing it with the school already.
