Once again (similar to the Illinois loss) Northwestern scored more points in the 2nd half than did the opponent. The Terps' 11 point lead at the half was reduced to a 10 point lead by game's end.
In addition The Wildcats reduced the spread down to 8 prior to the closing minute of the game - so if just a few of those late threes had fallen the right way along with a few more of the free throws having gone in, the Cats could have even pulled out the win. Lots of positives despite the loss, especially with the prospect of our leading scorer getting close to rejoining the team.
Special kudos to "The Alaska Kid" Isiah Brown on his game high 19 points and thanks to the BTN crew for injecting his Alaska connection into the narrative.
Born in Alaska, Isiah and his immediate family relocated to Washington State close to when he finished grade school. His dad Gerald Brown played basketball for the University of Alaska here in Anchorage and he also coached Alaska basketball phenoms Trajan Langdon (who graduated from my high school, East Anchorage High) and Mario Chalmers. If I recall correctly from a past newspaper account, extended family still reside here and the family members come back to visit and keep their Alaska ties strong.
Quoting from Lou's game summary:
"Say this about the Wildcats: they don’t quit. After falling behind by 20 they got the lead down to 8 points with 1:15 left ..... Brown scored 8 points of the Wildcats’ 22 points during the stretch run."
