Yale looking good vs Baylor, surprised by their athleticism, NU would have trouble against them.
NU had trouble with Columbia, although managed to pull a win from the jaws of defeat.Yale looking good vs Baylor, surprised by their athleticism, NU would have trouble against them.
Judging by their computer rankings, and the on-court results, NU would have trouble against about half the NCAA.
Actually, that's not bad. KenPom has NU at 71 (Yale is 35, Wisky 31), but you suggest that the Cats could beat 34 of the 68 NCAA teams. I agree. FWIW, KenPom has 17 teams in the NCAA rated lower than NU.
I meant D-I.
There are 351 D-I basketball teams.........all of the teams in the NCAA tournament are D-I. The official name of the Tournament is "Division I Men's Basketball Tournament".
I meant NU would have trouble with about half of those 351 teams.
The only team I actively wanted to lose in this tournament. Ugh.
Long live rape I guess.
Right let's always blame the victim first. As earlier stated why don't we all wait and see how this actually turns out, before throwing out such terms as "the victim blamers". I know, I know those Dukie lacrosse boys were angels, since one look at the school police records will show.Hard to imagine the university would expel the captain of what might be the best basketball team in school history without some pretty convincing evidence, but I guess it's possible. Unfortunately, rare, well-publicized cases like the one at Duke and the one at Virginia, throw doubt on accusers, and the well-intentioned and probably necessary privacy laws give cover to the victim-blamers.
Brace yourself for some very uncomfortable reading, and pick up Jon Krakauer's Missoula for the other side of the story.
The only teams NU lost to were tournament teams (NCAA and NIT). They also beat two tournament teams. So probably a more accurate statement would be that NU would have trouble with 1/4 of those teams. You could stretch that to 1/3 but half is going too far.I meant NU would have trouble with about half of those 351 teams.
The only teams NU lost to were tournament teams (NCAA and NIT).
Sorry missed that one. That said, in years past, PSU would have been close to an NIT team with a 0.500 overall record and 7 wins in the BIGPenn State is not a tournament team (NCAA or NIT).
Penn State is not a tournament team (NCAA or NIT).
But all teams can have trouble with a lot of the teams they play even if they are supposed to be better.. MD, OSU, MICH for example had trouble with us. IA for example had trouble with IL. PSU, MN."Lose to" and "have trouble with" are not the same thing. I think it's fair to say that the second quartile of D1 teams would give NU trouble even if they would not beat us even half the time.
Why don't we wait until the case is settled legally.. ESPN 30 on 30 just did a show on the Duke lacrosse rape scandal of 10 years ago. The three players accused in that case were subjected to harassment,, threats of violence and publicly scorned in the national media before all the evidence revealed they were innocent. In that case a mentally disturbed patient concocted a story and an over zealous district attorney, running for election, manipulated the evidence and public opinion , essentially convicting the young men in the eyes of public , in an effort to attract the black voters of Durham
It is interesting to learn of the fate of the three major figures in that case:
1. Crystal Mangum-now serving 14-18 years for murder
.2. DA Nifong-disbarred and served a one day sentence in jail. He withheld exculpatory evidence, namely the fact that 7 DNA samples were found on and in the accuser, none from a Duke player however
3. Lead Investigator-left Durham police force after improprieties of investigation were revealed, including altering the accusers description of her assailants to match the description of the three she picked out of a photo array of only Duke lacrosse players. He has since committed suicide
Backdoorpass is a good poster...he just felt like being a bit snarky in another thread, no reason to follow him around with this stuff.I'll bet Carmody remembers Penn State...
