That olah, demps, lumpkin and tap were the guys we went to down the stretch in the biggest game of the year.

And Mac too, of course. Gotta feel good for Taphorn that he played big-time minutes in the second half and overtime. Too bad that last 3 was just a bit short. Not sure it would have counted on review, anyway.

Well, Olah and Demps are seniors and leaders, so that's not surprising. Lindsey and Falzon were ineffective and in foul trouble today so Taphorn got a chance to play. He hasn't played at all recently so I don't think Collins was saving him for the big game. I am not sure why Collins plays Lumpkin as much as does (1 point) but he's the coach.

Yeah, sure, but those players as upperclassmen couldn't get us to the NCAA's. That's the story of NU and the Carmody regime right there in a nutshell.

NU's time is coming, as early as next year, as we'll actually have players up and down the roster than can play in the B1G.

NU loses two proven, experienced scorers in Demps and Olah. Lindsey, Ash, Skelly, Falzon and Pardon combined for a grand total of 3 points today. As the man formerly know as "Turk" would say, they need serous work. Leaving aside the incoming freshmen, who none of us know how good they will be, I count BMac, Law, Skelly, Falzon and Pardon as players who could play on most Big 10 teams. Tap, Sanjay, Lindsey and Ash are well below average. People who trash Tre and Alex as "Carmody recruits" will miss them next season.

Couldn't help but notice that you keep coming back here to troll after tough losses. Don't you have a First Four game to worry about?

Not trolling, just making the observation that at the end of his third full year, in the most important game of his coaching career, he had every single bc recruit on the team, on the floor when it mattered most.

Ncaa tourney game? Yes. Looks like Carmody is up to his old habits again.

They're certainly not recently acquired habits.

Yes. One of his strengths is coaching teams in conferences tournaments. Who can forget all those stunning upsets when he coached at NU. Remember the time when we were the 8 seed and we beat the 7 seed. That was unbelievable. Or how about the time when we ... oh, never mind. That was probably the only time we ever beat a higher seeded team in his 13 years.

Carmody didn't get it done in 13 years. Let it go. I thought he was generally a good coach and an indifferent recruiter who had bad luck with injuries. That is not a formula for success in a major conference. When he had good players, his teams did pretty well. When he had bad or inexperienced players (that he recruited), his teams went 3 and 31 in the conference in his 7th and 8th years at NU. I felt bad when he got fired but there is no doubt in my mind that Collins is a better fit at Northwestern. None.

Collins played a fifth year senior, a true senior, Lumpkin who has been in the program for 4 years, and Taphorn because he kind of had to in this game. A lot of coaches like to go with that kind of experience, particularly versus playing true freshmen and a sophomore that is a role player. Demps and Olah were good college players and we will miss them both next year. The issue that Carmody had was recruiting a full roster of B1G caliber players. We never had any depth. And I'm pretty sure that Carmody played Jitim Young, Winston Blake and Aaron Jenning at the end of games in his third year, when the team went 12 and 17.

Carmody is where he belongs. Go celebrate with the other Holy Cross supporters.

Of course before, it took 9 BIG wins to get in and this year it appears that 10 (11 with the BTT) wins is not enough

Because the only upperclassmen that he has are BC recruits and Law is out. In that situation, you want your most experienced players.
