Based on who I would or wouldn't want to play right now in the BTT...

1 Purdue 14-4 -- obviously
2 Minnesota 11-7 -- they are as hot as anyone in the conference, won 8 straight before @WI

3 Maryland 11-7 -- but there's a decent gap here, they are trending down
4 Northwestern 10-8 -- got the win over Mich and played Purdue tough
5 Michigan 10-8 -- only losses in last 8 were @Minn (OT) and @Northwestern by 2

6 Michigan St 10-8 -- have been up and down, team is beaten up but they still have Bridges
7 Wisconsin 12-6 -- would have been even lower if not for their 2nd half against Minny
8 Iowa 10-8 -- they could be higher, but w/o an inside post presence they worry me as NU fan less

9 Illinois 8-10 -- their perimeter pressure on defense really has given us trouble though
10 Indiana 7-11 -- have been ragged this year, but still have talent... see season closer @ OSU
11 Penn St 6-12 -- lots of tough close losses... glad they aren't in the 11/14 game
12 Ohio St 7-11 -- weird team this year, wonder if spill over from Thad's health issues
13 Nebraska 6-12 -- they've fallen off a cliff after a hot stretch early in B1G season

14 Rutgers 3-15 -- but still more dangerous than Rutgers of last year

The conclusion here is that... sure Maryland in essentially a home game for them isn't ideal, but I think we have close to the best draw we could have hoped for. If you have other views or would rank differently please discuss...

Still there is the can't lose 3 times to them ( Illinois &Purdue) a in a season rule.

NU is too high in your ranking. Limping through the end of the season.

Unless that limp is going away as Scotty gets his game back and the extra day may revitalize a team that was playing shorthanded much of the season. Big ifs I suppose.

Agreed. And based on the play over the last month, Michigan should be in the top 3 along with Minnesota and Purdue. Michigan was 6-2 over the last month of the season--and the two losses consisted of an OT loss at Minnesota (in the middle of their 8-game winning streak) and the Tap/Pardon buzzer beater at NU. Meanwhile, Michigan notched big wins over Purdue, Wisconsin and Michigan State over that stretch. Even though we beat them at WR, Michigan is definitely ahead of NU in current Power Ratings.

Debatable... maybe could put Michigan in front of us, I was thinking T4 almost. We did just beat them though. And I thought we looked better against Purdue (and Mich) than most of the other teams. Have you watched Wiscy and MSU play recently? I think there's more of an argument for putting Iowa in front of us than those two. I think NU at 4 is more of a reflection of the weakness of the conference after Purdue and Minny right now than the fact that we are lighting it up.

Yeah this is all fair... maybe Michigan should be ahead of us despite us beating them. Even though they are hot I have a hard time being scared of them cause I think they are weak inside and they'll get bullied in postseason play. But on the flip side, when Walton is hot he can carry that team down the stretch, sorta like Melo has done many a time for Maryland.

NU is 3-6 for the second half of the B10 schedule. How that get's NU at #4 is I think what is debatable.

Have you noticed their record during the first half of the season?

Willy, the common use of "power rankings" refers to an at the moment assessment. NU a top 4 Big Ten team right now? No chance.

Yeah I was probably basing it more on the last 2-3 games. Or more precisely, just thinking who I wouldn't want to play right now. If it was second half of the season we would definitely be lower. It probably depends on matchups for specific opponents, but I think we are playing better basketball than most of those teams below us. Michigan you can make a good counter argument for though. And MSU does have the Izzo / Bridges factor.

How far would you guys drop us? Just below Mich, or further?

I think I would put NU somewhere 7-9. I don't think they are playing too well. I think most teams in the Big Ten would welcome a matchup with NU right now.
