(Restraining myself from "defense wins championships," of course.)
This is so wildly different from anything we've seen at NU in, well, 20 years.
When Duke got the ball back with ten minutes left, there was no doubt in my mind that NU would hold on.
Duke had been, under Cutcliffe, a very good offensive team. They had no chance today. None at all.
The DBs are so good. There were consecutive plays in the first half, on second and third down, where Wartkins then Quiero made big hits. The fifth and sixth DB? Laying the wood? Unheard of, ever.
Lowry is so smart and so complete, and has continued to get better since he was a potential star as a freshman. And Walker is the classic mlb, so reliable that you just try to funnel everything his way.
It's just really, really amazing. I thought the defense would be good, but no chance I thought they'd be this good. (And no way I thought the D would make up for the O's deficiencies - I definitely didn't expect a bowl this season.)
When's the next TD come? Minnesota? Michigan? Nebraska?
This is fun.
