I think Macintosh is changed his release to make it much faster. The problem is that they're just not falling so far this year . If you can use this newer faster release and score at the pace he was last year that would be dynamite
Deja vu...
The difference this year is that Lindsey has really taken a step up. Law has displayed why Coach Collins said he was the most athletic player on the team. Skelly has developed his game both offensively and defensively. We now have a center who runs the floor and plays with a non-stop motor. Also, Taphorn looks a lot more valuable provided some needed punch off the bench. Brown has great skills even though he makes occasional freshman scratch your head mistakes. Benson got in today and we will need his size versus the big boys in the Big 10 and maybe versus Wake Forest.
These are valid points. Question; do you feel that a part of Bryant's slump might have something to do with that he is now surrounded by more talent, but is still playing like he is the main scoring option and has perhaps not adjusted to more of a complimentary role to his teammates? To me, it just seems like he is forcing so much now rather than letting plays happen...
Mike,
I think he tries to do much against some teams particularly from his home state of Indiana. He has really struggled against IU and definitely tried to do too much v. Butler with his 5 TOs and against ND with his 3 for 18 performance. I think today was more of a matter of a slump or maybe the fact it was his birthday. I don't know. But what is great about this team is that when one guy is struggling others step up. Law played great defense and led the team on offense and Lindsey has really improved his game when to shoot the ball and is not forcing the action. He has a good mid-range shot along with a very solid outside jumper. He and Law will be able to get their hands on a lot of balls leading to steals and break out opportunities. When fast break led to a Lindsey and Law transition opportunity where Scottie missed the bunny and Pardon raced down to clean up the mess and a put back dunk. That would not have happened in the past when our bigs were not as mobile to say the least. Benson got in the last couple of minutes and is very big body and looked good with his hands. He bricked his first free throw but self-corrected his second FT with much better form. We need him to get some minutes in the non-conference to get ready for the Big 10 with bigger players. Skelly played his best overall game with 15 points (career high), 6 rebs. and I believe 6 assists. Pardon may only be 6'8" but he is quick off the floor and has a large wingspan and must be averaging 3 + blocks a game. He really has worked on not fouling and has been a consistent performer.
But to get back to McIntosh, he forced it in the Butler and ND games but that is the coaching staff's decision too. He is a smart enough player to know if his outside shot is not falling to take it to the hole. He will break out of his slump. He is too good not to.
This team is a solid 9 deep and when Falzon starts playing more, they could knock off anyone on their schedule with the exception of the team with two very large bigs in West Lafayette.
B Mac needs to drive to the basket and get fowled when he is off like today. Get to the FT line and find his stroke. That is what Michael Jordan did all the time. Even Jordan got off a few times a season.
