Did the BIG make a mistake?

If I’m not mistaken, the commissioner had little to do with the decision. It was a vote of the presidents and individual school leadership.

look at baseball At least four teams had major outbreaks. If that happens in football you plan to play doubleheader’s later in the season. Caution should be the operative word. Especially when there are long term knowns and unknowns still out there.

Well, the Nebraska president was just caught on a hot mic, saying everything will be announced tonight.

They never cancelled it.
Cmon GoCatsGo, a winter or spring season makes no sense on many levels. You either play in the fall or you don't. Logistics are a nightmare otherwise. PAC-12 is also said to considering a November startup and they have a lot of more than covid issues to worry about (like terrible air from all those fires). There will be heavy peer pressure on players to follow the protocols or there will be no season. Schedule might have to be adjusted as we've already seen, but to think you are going to have some kind of season later on is a pipedream.

Point still stands that it was postponed and not cancelled.

I hate the inability to forgive or allow people to change their mind. This is clearly an epic mess of a circumstance. Let's let Warren, the brand new Big Ten commish, get a big pass here.

Even if the season isn't restarted tonight - even if it never happens - even if it does and then shuts down before a football is snapped - football can't be played in a bubble. This is hard stuff.

Warren has done just fine, and will be a great leader of the Big Ten conference.

I’m more than willing to give him a pass. The Presidents did he no favors that’s for sure. Hoping he has a terrific tenure as B1G commissioner.

It’s not his call. If you listen to most close to this situation, the Presidents dictated to Warren. In fact Warren’s own son is playing in the SEC.

The issue is the horrendous communication to everyone and anyone. No one knows what is going on. What drove the decision? Is there a plan to reintroduce competive sports? What factors have to be met? Maybe 100 More items.

You are right, it’s hard stuff. The President’s left Warren out to dry. He takes the heat for their call. I guess that is what he is paid for, but he is done like dinner as far as being an effective leader of the B1G. He should have demanded that people responsible for decision take some accountability too.

It’s still unbelievable to me that his own son is playing while the B1G is not...can’t make this stuff up.

I think Warren is getting screwed by the universities. He took over full time in January of 2020. My guess is that he cannot know the leaders of the universities well, who the players are, who he can trust or who will throw him under the bus. They certainly have not given him much backing. I thought they should have published who voted which way, if there even was a vote, so it was clear to everyone.

Would have expected a definitive answer by now, but the Detroit Free Press Article now suggests there really never was a vote despite the claim otherwise in response to the Nebraska players' lawsuit.

Probably a semantic thing as to what "vote" really means. Another thing that stood out in the article was the fact that both of the University Presidents in Michigan are reportedly infectious disease specialists.

gee wonder who we should listen to, the infectious disease specialists or those those who want games played as thousands die?

The Big Ten is a rudderless ship right now. Who hired this Warren guy anyhow?
He got a short shaft by the University Presidents.Hard to do the job under those circumstances. This is not to ssay whether he is good or bad but this is not his fault
