Do any of us even give even give the Gophers a chance to beat TCU?

Season opener, a high profile home game under the lights . . . obviously, TCU is terrific and will probably win by multiple scores, but if Minnesota can go, say, +2 in the turnover battle, I'd give them a puncher's chance to pull perhaps the upset of the season. Love to see the positive press for the Big Ten if they can somehow pull that off. Hey, we've seen stranger things happen.

No, but if they do, we're going to have a heck of a time with them.

I wouldn't sleep on Minnesota. I love them getting 17 points at home. Jerry Kill is building a program at Minnesota that can compete with anyone. It'll be similar to what Ferentz has done in Iowa ie not a national championship team but a very good one that can play with anyone in the country.

Bottom line is TCU is overrated. They play in the Big 12 which doesn't play defense. That's why there offensive numbers looked so good. Put them against an actual college football team that plays offense and defense and you could see the upset. TCU doesn't play defense either. Baylor put up 60 on them. Kansas put up 30 on TCU which was their 2nd highest against an FBS team last year.

If Minnesota runs a ball control, slow the game down, control the clock type of game, and put together some 8 minute drives, they can frustrate TCU. I'm not saying I'm picking Minnesota to win, but I'm also not going to be shocked if they do it.

Hope you're wrong, Shakes. I've got TCU -141/2 (placed a few days ago). I think the spread is now TCU -161/2.

A lot depends on Leidner. He was bipolar last year (in terms of game performance, not personal behavior) even with Cobb and Maxx Williams, both of whom have graduated. They have some talent at RB, but they will need to move the ball passing too if they are going to keep up with TCU.

TCU is legit. They may not be the #2 team (as preseason rankings are nearly impossible), but they are a top 5 team. Minnesota only has a chance to keep it close if they can get ahead early, control the clock and the ground. Unfortunately for the B1G, they lose by 3 scores.

Shakes, I agree with you that the Big12 doesn't play a whole lot of defense for the most part, but TCU is the exception there. TCU's defense was legit last year.... despite giving up 60 against Baylor (who scored 60 on practically everyone).

They were ranked #18 in total defense and #4 in adjusted defense (ahead of Stanford at #11) last year. Patterson's 4-2-5 is something to be reckoned with and he has found a way to neutralize the speed of the spread with it.

I have no idea how that will translate to this season, but they return practically everyone (including the Heisman front runner) and it's entirely possible they were the best team in the country at the end of last season. They absolutely demolished the team (Ole Miss) with the #3 adjusted defense the last time they took the field. I gather you think Ole Miss plays in a real conference with real defense, no?

TCU got screwed out of the playoffs last year. They are going to take every opportunity to run up scores, all season. Boykin is the real deal and will look to showcase as an early Heisman favorite.

Being right is awesome. $20 and breakfast sandwich to me this morning #AllIDOISWIN

I called that game correctly, getting TCU the win! Please start respecting the wrassler! I'm gonna overtake my brudda from anudda mudda Turk on here as top wildcat poster. Cats beat Stanford by ten and Wisky gets rolled over big time by Alabama!

TCU had a viable argument to be in the playoff, like OSU and Baylor. No one got screwed.

You are correct klemman. No one got screwed. What I meant to say is that TCU perceived it got screwed. In hindsight though, it didn't seem to matter, as TCU did not dominate as I thought they would. I think we are going to have a tough time against Minny.

Minny is good. But will be as fired up to play @NU as they were to play TCU in a rematch? That's the funny thing about college football, it is such a game of emotion. Cats could be 2-2 and playing for their post-season bowl lives while Minny will be 3-1 and flying high. I like the Cats' chances in that one.

Minny is always a bit overrated do to their weak out conference scheduling. No, I'm not including TCU in that but a bit surprised to see them on their schedule. NU should always expect victory against the likes of the Gophers. I know, I know we have lost the last couple but the game in 2013 was a gift to Minny.

You are absolutely correct there in saying TCU perceived they got screwed. If I was in there place I probably would have thought the same. Pretty easy as an OSU fan to think that everything went right with the playoff committee.
