A bunch of us went in 08 and had a great time despite the weather. This year we will be an underdog. The demand for Duke tickets and of course the price are greater now than they were then. A lot of the visitor seats and group seats are in the end zone. However I can get a block of seats on the visitor side, approximately 20 to 25 yard line, together in a block. The regular price is $35 a ticket, but I can offer them at $10 per ticket cheaper. I am trying to negotiate a better price but a lot will depend on the size of our block. I have not decided for sure if I am going to try and organize anything. Right now I am just trying to get an idea for how many people might be interested in sitting in our block. Should I decide to do something I will almost certainly try to organize a party.

Count me in for a ticket. If i can't make it I will be happy to donate it back to you to give to someone as my guest.

I'll take 2-easy drive to Durham from DC. Let me know when you want the money. I still have contacts with Duke lacrosse and may be able to get info on bar/restaurant for NU gathering

Group?

How many is a group? Do you think your group might be interested in joining the ticket block , attending a party or both?

docrugby,

I lost most of my email list when my computer died a few months ago. If you still have my email address drop me a note. If not is there anyone on the board who has your contact information?

Re: docrugby,

FloridAlum,

Mrs. NC and I might be in, as we have many times in the past, but not sure at this point. When is the game? The place where we went the last time was a lot of fun, with good food and great craft beers. We still have the photo outside the Purple Party, which includes such luminaries as willycat, Uber, Glades, Turk and yourself, as well as many other Board stalwarts. Hope all is well with you.

NoChores,

Duke game is third game of the year September 19. Game time will not be announced for quite a while which makes planning a bit of a problem, but best guess is late afternoon or evening like the last time. They do not usually have early kickoffs in September because of the heat. Right now I am just trying to see if there is much interest in case I negotiate a ticket block.
The photo to which you refer from 2008 is in my photo album. If you go to my fan page and look at album that says my photos it is near the end of the slideshow. It's a pretty stunning looking group of people if I do say so

Re: NoChores,

Drills are definitely interested. All depends on Drill Jr's schedules. He's busier than his parents. BTW, you need to update your photos. Add more!

It looks like I will be in the USA at that time so count me in. Will inform if plans change.

GRAMMAR ALERT

Dude, it is "Waterboy and I". You put his name first as if he is more important, even though we both know that is questionable. Also it is not "Waterboy". It is "The Waterboy" as in the one and only. There are many other waterboys but ours is one-of-a-kind.
We might need to go back to that barbecue place where we ate the night before the game as long as The Waterboy now understands that North Carolina style barbecue is vinegar based. The desert cobblers there were also yummy

Re: GRAMMAR ALERT

Gee FloridAlum, I'm surprised that you didn't want to go to the place in the old tobacco district, where you could not smoke indoors, outside or across the street.

willycat,

I was referring to a place where about a dozen of us had dinner the night before the game and purple party. As far as the party location, I went outside to have a cigarette and the security guard made me walk a block till I was no longer in that complex. The location turned out better than I expected, as I booked it sight unseen based on recommendations from Duke messageboard, but if I plan another party I will look for a place that can accommodate a larger group

Item of note...

As you clarified to Turk, it's "The Waterboy" and not to be confused with "Da Waterboy" who has been a long standing fan and vociferous internet personality of Da BuckNuts.

As for NC BBQ, I'm still coming to terms with their local vinegar-based sauce(s). It's palatable, but takes some "getting used-to." The cobblers are to die for.

Re: willycat,

Remember that long walk well and I don't smoke. What is the name of the Bar BQ joint you referenced and where is it located?

In addition...

whatever venue you may reserve for the Purple Party, make sure that Glades has a reliable local map and a flashlight in hand at least a week prior to the event. The experience of that drive (I was crammed-crow barred into the back seat of a Toyota Camry, I believe with Turk and another board personality - perhaps it was HappyNUYear) is etched into my memory as we drove around the NC countryside. often back-tracking in both directions multiple times, before we found that goat path/tobacco cart road leading to the restaurant. In the end, ii was a fantastic place to eat and enjoy the Purple Fans' company.

Very true...it took me all of about 30 seconds to get used to it and love it. A great meal. Almost as good as those feather-light biscuits outside Nashville. [/B]

Google - Allen & Son, Chapel Hill. Well known to the locals. Although in the middle of Chapel Hill it feels like you are totally in the boonies The drive to get there was quite memorable. It is an old farmhouse with tarpaper roof converted to a restaurant but to get there you drive down a long almost unpaved and unlit road, past small houses with washing machines and cars on cinderblocks in the front yards, over the railroad tracks until you think you might be lost. If we go again the night before the game you should join us. Of course you will not find anything to complain about because the food and company will be awesome, and if Gladeskat starts picking on you we will gang tackle him and subject him to serious humiliation.

Re: In addition...

those weren't pillows. lol Bad memories of the ride. Somehow you, glades, me, Floridalum, happynuyear all fit in a Toyota.

Wow, should feel right at home. Those are the identical directions to get to Sarah Palin's house in Wasilla - you know, the one that has the great view of Russia from the backyard.

I give this place the nod over KaTNap's place

I think I walked out of there with a total bill of $8. Included a drink, BBQ sandwich, beans, dessert. tip.

I spent 10 years in North Carolina, and been to many a BBQ place, but this place sticks out as just incredibly phenomenal. I will be back there. I put this right up there with KaTNap's place outside Nashville, although I give this place the nod because at least the dirt road wasn't crowded. It took us forever to get to KaTNap's biscuit and chicken hideout. Of course, The Waterboy, didn't like the idea of biscuits and chicken as a filler up, so he ordered the chicken, biscuits, and a full porterhouse steak. What up with that?

That was my place!

I coerced you guys into the Loveless Café despite the driving distance and the fact that it is very touristy. It is a famous local landmark I have heard about for years. kaTNap merely commented about potential traffic problems because he lives in Nashville. Don't give that dude credit for my idea. Despite the pain in the butt traffic that took more than twice the normal driving time I was still very glad we got a group to meet there. Sadly the famous biscuit lady who was there about 50 years died the year before. I enjoyed sitting across from The Waterboy and watching his eating exhibition. The dude ate a full entrée as a main course and a second full entree as a side dish.
You have to admit that I have found you some interesting places to eat over the years.

Re: That was my place!

The Boston itinerary you planned was also phenomenal. That old place must have been 150 years old. Interesting, and the food was good. Then artu's after the game at the north end was to die for, especially as The Waterboy bought two bottles of good Italian win. It's always good to get a victory at these away games, and the losses are always a bummer away from home, but the fellowship with other Cat fans is like a sacred thing.

Re: That was my place!

My original, best Boston North End eatery of choice was Giacamo's. By the time the Fantastic Four (you, Fla, Glades & myself) hacked our way thru bumper-to-bumper local traffic and found a highly prized parking spot that was being vacated immediately in front of us, Giacamo's waiting line stretched down the front block around the corner and down the side block into the next block. I asked the hostess her estimate regarding the waiting time and she said, as usual, it was 1st-come/1st served and the approximate wait was close to 2 hours.

We strategically declined that wait and I suggested the 2nd choice - Artu, about 3 blocks down the street. It was an epic meal highlighted by 2 separate groups of attractive ladies seated at tables on either side of the Fantastic Four's table... and they were all lit-up and very talkative/approachable. The wine selection was my way to introduce the F-F to them and each group took my suggestion and ordered several bottles of the same Italian vino we imbibed. If memory serves me correctly, I believe that you, in particular, caught the eye & high interest of one of those damsels and we gave you holy hell when she left without you after extending an invite for you to join her and her friends for a drink at another watering hole in another part of town. I guess the prospect of leaving us remaining 3 scruffy dogs alone to our own devices to fend for ourselves was too much for your kind, sensitive, nurturing nature regarding leaving us behind (besides, you didn't have a secure ride back to our hotel and didn't know the way back, so your better angels forced you to over-think the invite. Silly boy!!!). Anyway, I rank the enjoy-ability meter for the North End night's activities right up there with the fun factor all had at the Bee Hive joint Fla found in Colorado Springs before the Air Force game.

Re: That was my place!

I thought the comfy ride to artu's with 5 of us in a small Toyota was too comfy to pass up back to our hotel. If I remember, HappyNuyear was with us as well. lol

Count me and Mrs. Catalog in. Thanks as always for organizing.

With the new format this thread will still be available to revive as the time comes closer to our game with Duke. Kind of makes up for the skull and crossbones, or is it heads mounted on coat hangers, that border our posts.

we are going for sure, but staying with/attending with friends from Raleigh that we haven't seen in about 15 years

Just Had a rotaror cuff repair and had to be careful not to re- injurer it.
Hey Ko, hope you are OK. Judy and I will try to make it, but not sure yet. It would be nice to see you guys again.

TJ , In good shape now, back to fishing. I also hope to make the Minnesota game. I will be passing by Erie sometime this fall. I will call. I hope you guys are well.
