Elko to Texas A&M

I'm a little surprised Duke would let him go. Despite the injuries this season, he had a lot of buzz going on around the program this season.

I’m very curious to see this coaching season and next….who chooses stability over chasing the nat championship which only 10-12 schools have a realistic chance every year. Another 10 will have a shot at the 12 team playoff.

College football is now like the basketball tourney. Your goal is just to get into the dance.

And three years from now we'll be talking about the size of his buyout.
Like so many others before him, Elko was in the right place at the right time to get noticed at Duke. Now he parlays that good fortune into a personal fortune.

I still have no idea what makes him special as a head coach. Not when you look at what he inherited and who he beat.

Heard today that Kentucky's Mark Stoops was A&M's first choice but influential boosters killed that.

Elko turned a moribund Dook program into an instant winner (granted, no guarantee of long-term success).

At the very least, TAMU should have a good D most years.

For whatever reason, TxAM got all Schiano-to-Tennessee angry over one defensive-minded head coach at a basketball school that wears blue and white and went 7-5 this season, but then were overjoyed at the hiring of a different defensive-minded head coach at a basketball school that wears blue and white and went 7-5 this season.

I think Stoops is a better coach with a longer track record. He’s taking Kentucky to their eighth-straight bowl (4-3) next month. We downplay how much he’s because they’ve been so average for the past decade, but they were basically South Carolina for the decades prior.

But Elko is younger and familiar.

Dook had been competitive for awhile before Elko took over.
