It will never be built.
Even before this mess happened it was looking iffy. There's no way it's happening now.It will never be built.
I don't think they'll need to worry about a new stadium, or really, any crowds around Central Street for some time to come.
Maybe just visiting team crowds.I don't think they'll need to worry about a new stadium, or really, any crowds around Central Street for some time to come.
I thought the 35,000 seat idea was silly.
You can take another zero off that number now.
Sure, but that doesn't mean the administration should make the mistake of falling into that trap. This will give the Evanston cohorts that would like NU to drop football and get rid of the stadium more ammunition.
I hate to break it to you but I just don’t see it happening. The money men will press the pause button.Pausing the stadium rebuild would take a catastrophic situation and turn it into an even bigger/longer-term mess because it changes nothing about the fact that this rebuild is needed whether now or in 5 years.
Just no; the stadium rebuild needs to go forward. Better to be away from Evanston sooner than later if we need to be out for 2 seasons during the rebuild anyhow.
You and I both know there's only one person that can halt it (other than Schill + key members of the board) and that's Pat Ryan himself.I hate to break it to you but I just don’t see it happening. The money men will press the pause button.
They’re not wrong. It is time for the dollars to go elsewhere. Continuing to invest in Northwestern football is a complete waste of resources. This will give the Evanston cohorts that would like NU to drop football and get rid of the stadium more ammunition.
I don’t think Ryan is going to be in a rush to write any checks. If it happens, it won’t be for a while but my guess is it never happens. You and I both know there's only one person that can halt it (other than Schill + key members of the board) and that's Pat Ryan himself.
If that's the call he makes, fine, it's his to make and I can respect that. I still think it's a mistake because it's needed and without Ryan's backing it may never happen.
I just hate to think that this fiasco taking place before shovels are in the ground could push this project off indefinitely when it's so sorely needed.
Here's the thing, you want to get it done in the next 3 years because these are probably going to be pretty lean years.I'll admit I'm feeling pessimistic right now - but let's say we build the new stadium. Can we even find enough Cats fans to fill it based on the anticipated crap-show we could have for the next few years? I was planning to travel to last game at Ryan Field. Sadly, I guess, it won't be this year.
That's a really helpful explanation. Thank you!Evanston and the Ryan Field neighbors aren't against rebuilding the stadium. They aren't anti-sports. They're against rezoning a residential neighborhood as an entertainment district and hosting large, for-profit concerts to service the debt on the stadium.
We're not looking forward to 3-4 years of construction and the noise, traffic and pollution that it will entail. But we'll survive it and will be excited to see games at the rebuilt Ryan Field. All we're asking is for alternative financing that doesn't rely on huge concerts that will trash a highly-taxed neighborhood with limited parking.
It's the dolts in the athletic department who are making a mess of this, not NIMBY neighbors. Their traffic plan is disastrous for concerts, their sound study is full of holes, and their request for unlimited for-profit concerts with audience below 10K is what makes this so offensive. That's like a basketball game at W-R every night, plus 10 mega-concerts.
If the stadium gets delayed, it will be due to same arrogant, tone-deaf athletic department that is currently in such disarray. I want a new stadium, but I don't trust the current, ham-fisted athletic department to do things right -- at least based on their record to-date.
The problem is, staying in the current stadium without major changes is not a viable option. Unfortunately, NU needs both at the same time.Tank the stadium, but money into something that actually makes a difference: NIL
We don’t need one of the fanciest stadiums in the entirety of college sports. The problem is, staying in the current stadium without major changes is not a viable option. Unfortunately, NU needs both at the same time.
That’s true.We don’t need one of the fanciest stadiums in the entirety of college sports.
