Put him on notice that something has to change or he's gone. We're going to be 1- 11 this year that is totally and completely unacceptable.
I hate to say it but you’re right. I don’t want him to fail but he’s so stubborn and truly unwilling to hold people accountable. I have to make hard decisions in my line of work and let good people go if they underperform, but a guy making millions doesn’t seem to have any accountability.Put him on notice that something has to change or he's gone. All too true.I do not envy our new AD’s position. That contract extension has put him in an impossible spot.

Yep. Here’s what else will happen in the real world. Fitz gets canned and we will end up with a head coach who really doesn’t give a shit about Northwestern. Oh, he’ll pretend he does until he fails or the real world offers him an escape. And really, why should he care about NU? He will see how NU treats the people who really do love it. I’m afraid we have to pray and apply pressure so Fitz rights the ship or we’re goners I don’t see a realistic way out. Here in this real world of yours, we are in a bad, bad place.Bulls eye. The real world works that way.
Who cares if a new coach "cares" about NU? His job is to win games. I'm OK if his motivation is to win and get a better job. I'd rather have upwardly mobile, motivated coaches than guys who see NU as a safe haven early retirement job.Yep. Here’s what else will happen in the real world. No. I expect him to do his job. He did w CCC. Also the Mich and Neb ADs held the coaches' feet to the fire. Do it. Make his life miserable if you must.I do not envy our new AD’s position. That contract extension has put him in an impossible spot.
Four weeks ago, I remember you saying you cared. The proof is in the pudding! No one cares about this team and NU!
Well, we are not in the Ukraine. There's a bright spot.Yep. Here’s what else will happen in the real world. I'm pretty sure he cares a LOT. I bet he is agonizing over this. But, like the German generals in War and Peace, he can't conceive of anything wrong with his perfect plan. The plan is flawless. The execution is the problem.Yep. Here’s what else will happen in the real world. Fitz gets canned and we will end up with a head coach who really doesn’t give a shit about Northwestern. Does he care enough to admit a mistake and fire his underperforming buddies on staff?I'm pretty sure he cares a LOT. I bet he is agonizing over this. I will agree that he has a longer leash than most coaches, but after another stinker season this year that leash might not be quite so long. He can lengthen it by replacing JON but in the mean time he is burning through goodwill pretty fastIt is not impossible. He is the ONE guy who could go after this excrement explosion by firing O'Neil. Fitz won't do it. It is a good point that Fitz is contractually untouchable. And after all he's accomplished, everybody wants him to continue. But to do that, he must have some elite - f'g elite! Like Doc! - assistants who not only do superior coaching but also superior recruiting. He doesn't have them and he doesn't seem to have the ability to recruit them. The AD could start to SAVE HIM FROM HIMSELF by firing O'Neil. Not tomorrow, now. A statement needs to be made especially to Fitz but also the entire coaching staff. Stubborn f'g Paddy. (So is my wife - I know whereof I speak.)
IMHO, Fitz lives in a world where he BELIEVES everybody is made of the same stuff that he is made of. He came to NU as an upper-class athlete and made himself into an All American through total dedication. He thinks the players he recruits will do the same. He thinks the coaches he recruits will do the same. But only some of the players and coaches have that stuff.
The rest of the televised season will compete for viewers with SPCA ads and "The Simpsons" reruns.
Please, NU, do not sit there and watch this like you're dazed by a world you just stumbled into.
What we have seen in those 4 weeks could have changed thatFour weeks ago, I remember you saying you cared.
