Northwestern (3-0) relied on its defense and a ball-control offense to pull off the road win in a battle of unbeaten schools.
Justin Jackson ran for 120 yards and Warren Long added 59, including a 55-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter for the Wildcats' only offensive TD. Their other one came on a 98-yard kickoff return by Solomon Vault to open the second half.
Northwestern won despite quarterback Clayton Thorson throwing for just 70 yards with two interceptions on 9-of-23 passing, thanks to a defense that held Duke (2-1) to 327 yards.
In three games this season, Northwestern has allowed 16 points."
